Why the difference in price between the 550 series that takes the N series battery, and the one that takes AA batteries?

Circuitry required to run each type is different, as *I* understand it. I'm no electrical engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once..............

AA batteries last MUCH longer, Cost Less, Can be found ANYWHERE and you can even get a solar recharger for them too!

Supposedly the N units have a reputation for discharging their batteries while in not in use.

I have the "N" (511) version.

Buy the "AA" (512) version.

The optic costs the same, the batteries last longer, and are much cheaper and easier to find.

I am an eotech dealer.  The answers in a nutshell:

The 550 series IS nightvision compatable, having an additional function and more brightness settings.  The 550 series is also somewhat more durable.

The 510 series IS NOT nightvision compatable.

The 550 series is compatible with night vision and the 510 series is not compatible with night vision.

AllserviceBilliards explained it better than I.

AllserviceBilliards,

I have a question for you.  I'm getting a new 552 next Tuesday for $407 shipped.  Do you think thats a good price?

+1

I would love to trade my "N" version for a "AA" version.  The "AA" unit is a little longer, but that is it's only fault.

Plus you can use lithium AA batteries, which have a much greater shelf life and last a lot longer in use than alkalines, even moreso in cold weather, in the 512.
