I have been doing some research on the net but so far i have not found what i am looking for.

Here is my criteria - bright as possible will be used outside at night in the woods camping, easy to carry but does not have to be as small as a tactical light.

What is the newest technology as far as bulbs is concerned is luxeon the newest and brightest? i read something about krypton but i wasnt sure which one was brighter.

I would just go with surefire.

but some of those million watt lights that you can plug into 110 or your car are pretty sweet!

You just opened the can of worms

I would be more than happy to help you.  But i need more info.

DO you have runtime, size, or battery limits?  DO you want something that is rechargable or that runs on batteries you can swap out?

if you want the BRIGHTEST thing per dollar... go to sams club, and buy the 35 watt HID spot light they have.

its this one:

Now, if you dont want something that size, this is a little smaller:
batteryjunction.com/n30-3161.html

NOW, if you have the money, and you want a flat out, WOW flashlight, these are the same size as a surefire M6, but they put out a TON of light, with their 10W, 24W, and 35W HID bulbs.  A dealer on arfcom has these:
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=432255

Now, if you want something with an LED and you want to drop it into your surefire 6p or 9p, look at this www.bugoutgearusa.com/crq5drmo.html  or this www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18

Now, if you have a MAGLITE, and you want a drop in LED, look at this: www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_3&products_id=15  or one of these elektrolumens.com/DropIn/MonsterThrow.html  I have the one with THREE LEDs on its way.  I think it is gonna rock.

Or, if you want something small, with a bunch of settings, get a FENIX.

feel free to ask if you need more help.

Do you want the R version, the rechargable one?  Or the one that takes 123a batteries?

I was just wondering.  I rarely take rechargable flashlights on deep trips into the woods.  After the charge is gone, they are worthless.

Also, which type of LED drop in did you buy?

Oops sorry, i definitely do not want the rechargeable one be a bad thing to get out there and not be able to put spare batteries in it...

I havent bought a drop in yet but i really liked the looks of the one from this link www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_3&products_id=15

Yeah the rechargeable would be a mistake for my intended uses.... wont be any power outlets anywhere around..

Get a Surefire 9P or C3-HA

Then get a Malkoff Devices drop in.   They are hard to get, but he's ramping up for full-time production as we speak.  Hold out for his next production with a Cree Q5.

Questions for you guys regarding these lithium ion rechargeables,

Are there any problems with leaving them on the charger until you need them? In other words can you leave them on the recharger 24 x 7 until you need them or will they wind up overcharged and useless (e.g batteries ruined or else run time drastically shortened) ?

Thanks

Ed

"Brightest" is a pretty wide open criteria, it's more like "how bright of a light can you afford"...

I got one of the Lowe's CREE 2-C lights, I had no CREE and was curious but cheap. It's a very tight spot beam but it plain HURTS to look at, even just the side spill. It costs all of $30, just make sure you're buying the CREE one, and not the Luxeon one.
