German K98's were able to shoot 30-06 rounds too?
Some supposed "gun nut" at the range claims this.

I can make a .50 BMG zip gun using plumbing pipe and cardboard.
It'll shoot just fine.
Once.
It might chamber a .30-06, but it'll either explode in your face, or split the barrel, or otherwise seriously damage the shooter or the weapon.

Never heard that one before.
I have been told that the Jap Type 31 can chamber and fire a 30-06 round, but it is considered to be a very unsafe pratce.

No. Now, a heck of a lot of old Mausers were reamed out to the 8mm/06 back in the day.

How does this shit get started? No!
The .30/06 Spfld cartridge is much too long to chamber in an 8mm. Sheesh.
Tell him the 5.56 round can be fired in an AK though--you heard it in 'Nam.

I had an Argentine Model 1909 chambered in 30-06.
I couldn't tell ya any more about it.
