Do you have a certain spot picked out to get away from the chaos?

I have a certain place in the mountains near the border of Mexico and TX. It is a cave near a small lake, perfect for shelter and water.

The nearest Costco will belong to myself and a few close buds.

Gasoline, plenty of food, brand new generaters for endless power, a well fortified structure with no windows, a huge roof to keep an eye out for unfriendlies, all you gotta do is drive a half dozen trucks ( well stocked with ammo and guns ) right through the front door and heard all the sheep out and it's Fort Costco

The best part is that you will be greeted at that Costco by a number of other small groups of ill prepared gun owners who are also intent upon stealing and engaging in lawlessness in order to offset their lack of preparation.

In SHTF our strength will lie in numbers. If you can get most of your neighbors "On your side" then you'll be 10 times stronger than you just on your own. Get in good with your neighbors like you should, and you can pretty much keep your neighborhood safe and secure.

I suppose if it came to it, but by getting in good with your neighbors, hopefully you will ALL be prepared, and this won't have to happen. And if the food runs short, you can ALL go looting as an unstoppable force.

I don't live in one of the death traps some refer to as "cities" so I'll just stay home, where I can raise my own food, heat my house, cook the food I raised, all without electricity if need be, or generate my own as long as fuel lasts.

Also, my silos make excellent overwatch positions.

Bitteroot Mtn range.

I have a remote spot I ride out to when I go for my yearly 4 day hunt/camping trip.
Its about a 10min walk from water.

Takes about a day (First light to sunset) to get there on horse.

It's a nice little cave that extends about 30ft back into the rock then opens into a roughly 20ft wide pocket about 5ft high.

Each year I dump some gear in there and then roll a rock over the entrance.

So far I have.

1 5gal bucket
1 -40 rated sleeping bag
1 a lighter sleeping bag
20lbs trioxane bars
50 MRE's
2 of the old style portable mess kits.
10lbs bag of rice sealed in a 2gal bucket
10lbs beans sealed in a 2gal bucket
Assorted cloths.
500rds 5.56 in a plastic gasketed ammo can.
50rds .45 and 1000 .22lr in another can.
Some canned meats.
5lb container of protien powder.
23in Kukuri.
Fully stocked medic kit without IV's but actually have the lil morphine packets, antibiotics exc.
Shovel
Ax
couple of the 500ft spools of 550
fishing gear, pole, net, line, lures exc.

And probably a bunch of stuff I don't remember off the top of my head.

I figure it's a 2 day on foot with my bugout load if I get trans to where the road ends.  Three if I go from my folks house.

I figure I have enough there to make a hard winter if I'm very proactive (Hunt fish scrounge) or eat my horse.

There are a couple falls where I have to dismount and walk my horse.  One was so rough I had to spend a day on foot looking for a route the horse could take.  There are several places that look like a good pass but dead end and you waste several hours.

I figure I've got just enough ammo that if some hostile force of less than 50 makes it that far on foot they won't come back out.

Yep, the local Krogers is mine.  Next to a Mall for foraging expeditions, although I imagine the mall will be well looted.  That's okay, you can't eat that big screen TV...

The next door 12 story office complex will likely be abandoned, that will be the sniper nest.

I and my neighbors will set it up like a medieval kingdom, and make the unlucky outside petitioners perform acts of skill to get food and water.

"Hey, Duke of Aisle Three, toss over a number 10 can of corn, will ya?  I want to see this bitch do 50 push ups".

We did this a bit on other forum... but there's never been a nation wide disaster that's knocked down 'civilization' for longer than 3 days.

Localized storms or earthquakes have knocked whole states into 3rd world status (no electricity) for 1-2 weeks or in the case of big hurricanes, a month or so. But nothing like Jericho or these 'end of the world' scenarios.

In other words - we're talking about an unprecedented catastrophe where each town, county, state is 'on it's own' and no outside force will be arriving because they're all in the same dire situation.

Now this means a couple of things.

First of all a nationwide disaster involving the downing of the electrical grid for the whole country would be a catastrophe of biblical proportions. If in winter, millions would die of exposure and famine. If in summer, millions would die of disease.

The very old and very young would die of neglect, starvation, lack of medications, disease....

Those addicted to drugs, alcoholism, pron, etc. would go into withdrawl and worse after a week or two... and become just one slice of the pie of "Barbarians".

In our "just in time" business universe, it has been calculated that the local food marts and grocery stores keep 3-6 days worth of food on hand for their local clientele. They get nightly resupplies from big box regional warehouses - half-mile long centers with 1 month or so of food for their region's.

And that's it.

Whatever people have in their pantries (1-2 weeks for 90% of the population)
Whatever local stores have (1-2 weeks tops)
Whatever regional warehouses have (presuming transportation and logistics can work to get this distributed (1 month).

America thus is about 2 months from famine.

I think I have about 1.5, maybe 2 months worth of food in my basement pantry. After that, we're out and empty - just in time for the Great Panic to hit.

Heading for the hills might be a one-way proposition - unless you have months worth of food, fuel, and other essentials pre-positioned there. And seriously...if the spot is in the boonies, how much can you preposition without it going bad or getting stolen?

If I had land way up north, and money and time, I'd bury alot of geo-caches: 5 gallon buckets filled with MREs, vacuum packed rice, flour, etc., clothes, ammo, guns, diesel, etc. etc. and then carve out a 900 sq. foot. dugout, cut a cord or two and just keep everything nice and secure underground, next to a nice but largely empty cabin.

I don't so if I needed to bug out, it'd be "to grandma's house" we go.
