| So i bought a new rifle the other night and the dealer didnt check my form very good and i left with rifle and had forgot to check whether i was discharged or not . Since this was an error on the sellers end , can i be penalized in any way ? |

You forgot to answer this question ? g. Have you been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions? or you forgot to answer "yes" to the above question ? Form 4473 |
| Sorry ,,, No , i was not discharged , just got overlooked and not answered . I was just wondering if i could risk reposetion of the firearm because of this . I dont really have an issue drivin back over to fix it , but it sux that i have to burn $20 in gas to do so . |
So you were never in the military...good enough. You made a mistake and effectively didn't complete the form as required by law, even though you signed on the dotted line saying that all answers are true and complete to the best of your knowledge (or whatever). Burn the $20 and go fix it. |
Legally: If he sold you the gun without a complete 4473 filled out, he's in trouble. You did nothing wrong so long as everything you answered was truthful, and you can legally own the firearm. I'm not a lawyer, but I believe it's all on his shoulders. Ask him if he could make it worth the $20 of gas to go out there (discount on ammo or accessories or something). Be friendly, it may be worth your time/effort. |
| Unless you are prohibited or tried to intentionally hide info, you are not in trouble. If you're not prohibited you are good to go. The dealer is supposed to look over the 4473 to verify you answered everything, he failed to do so. Have him pay the $20 in gas. |
Since your signature certifies that all answers are "true and correct", technically omission (even if accidental) still qualifies as "untrue" does it not? Lawyer or FFL I'm not, but I prefer to be a little tin-foil hat about that kind of stuff. To the OP, how did you find out you forgot to answer this question? Did the dealer call you and tell you? |

The dealer can mail you a certified letter stating what happened with a copy of the 4473. You make the corrections (in blue ink)and send it back. He then staples the copy of the letter and ammended 4473 to the original. No gas needed, only the cost (from him) for the certified letter and return letter. It's legal, you and he will not get into trouble, and you don't have to get the wife mad Now.......send me some ammo for helping to fix this problem!!!
