i was so damn close to buying an iPhone several times, but there are too many issues and problems, a slow internet service and no MMS. I'm over it now, the new ATT Tilt and Verizon i-760 and Voyager looks more promising.

I own a pair of Crocs. There can be only one totally gay item in my house at a time, and the Crocs got the nod, so no iPhone for me.

I have one.

It's extremely slick. An incredible piece of hardware. Overall, I'm very happy.

Drawbacks?
1) AT&T service is only so-so where I live. This is a comment against AT&T, not Apple's design. So my coverage isn't quite as good as it used to be, but still OK. You may want to check AT&T's coverage maps, or ask someone near you how local coverage is. In some areas it's great.
2) No 3rd party native software yet. But rumors have it that Apple will allow this in the future.

No more expensive than Treos or Blackberrys.

Do they play movies? iPhone has movies, songs, e-mail, full web-browser (not some toned down version), camera, texting, calendar, google maps, phone, Wi-Fi, etc, etc.

Plus they're all flawlessy integrated and incredibly intuitive. All in a sleek, stylish package.

Well I would think so.  However i've been looking at all the phones.  It seems that those with built in WiFi do not support the Edge network.  Is there a phone out there that does both?  Maybe it's an FCC thing.

Does not run on edge.

Not sure if that's good or bad.

I can say texting and e-mails take no time. And phone service seems fine if you're under good AT&T coverage.

Web browsing is a little sluggish over the phone line. But I expected that, and have nothing to compare it to. Not sure if EDGE is any better. If you're near a Wi-Fi hot spot, internet is much faster.

No bugs.

The software works well. It's not a big issue, but it seems like adding events to your calendar (on the phone, rather than the computer) is a little more cumbersome than I'd like. But, as an Apple user I have high expectations. Overall, the iPhone has the intuitiveness that Apple is noted for: I was able to pick it up, and use every element of it without reading an instruction.

My regret is that my service (AT&T) is worse than what I had. But it's still good enough that I'm OK with it.

I looked hard at the Treo. I have a Palm at work that has a couple 3rd party programs/references on it that are useful. It would have been nice to load something like that on to my iPhone. But the time may be coming when Apple opens the phone to native software developers.

ETA: Another good thing is that the iPhone software, just like OSX, will continue to get better. And it updates automatically, without thinking about it.

US Cellular. I live in semi-rural NH, so YMMV. Verizon is also reputed to be OK here. I've visited bigger cities where there are absolutely no issues with AT&T coverage.

If you're considering an iPhone, take a good look at AT&T's coverage maps, to see how it is in your area. Hopefully, AT&T will be using some of its profits from the iPhone to improve its coverage.

Currently I have Sprint.  I don't have much trouble with them.  I'll drop a call when I go inside certain buildings or if I enter an elevator.  Overall it works well for me.  I'm afraid to get rid of them... however, they have the worst phones to choose from.  I need something better than what i'm currently using.

Maybe I should go with a BlackBerry for now and wait for the second generation iPhone to arrive.  I'm hesitant to fork out so much money for something I won't be completely happy with.

I have one, love it.  I haven't started blowing Al Gore yet either, but according to arfcom that will happen any day now.

Some of you are wrong, the iPhone does use EDGE.  EDGE is AT&T's 2nd generation data network, I think you mean to say that it does not use 3G data plans.  EDGE is just a name.

On WiFi your speed is that of a laptop, EDGE is slow, but not unusable.

Very impressed with the interface, the touch screen keyboard took some time to get used to (~ a week) but now I am as fast or faster than other devices.  The screen is bright and very crisp.  Overall, best phone I have ever had.  Combine the iPod, and I don't think you can go wrong for $400.

Call quality excellent.

2 Complaints:
-No flash support yet for integrated browser.
-3rd party native apps won't be out until early next year when apple releases the SDK for the device.

The Tilt I just picked up for my fiance supports both WiFI and 3G (the HSDPA network requires 3G). Edge is rated at 700K, HSDPA is rated at 1.5 Mb. Edge usually delivers about 256K; I regularly get connections over 1 Mb using my HSDPA Blackjack as a network access device with my notebook.

As I've posted before, the iPod is a nice toy/gadget phone. My 16 year old loves her's. As a business tool it requires compromises and workarounds.  Maybe iPhone Mk II will address those problems; until then, it stays in the category of trendy toy.
