I recently took the 473 exam which covers several different postal jobs. Just found out today that I scored an 81.4 plus my five veterans points for a total of 86.4. I heard an internet rumor that no one has ever scored hire then an 85 (given the high failure rate of the test.) Curious what current postal employees may have scored prior to being hired. Thanks in advance. |

Your test score will be put on a register. Think of it as a stack of papers (test scores) with the highest score on top. Scoring an 86 will just get you hired later than the guy with the 98. Did you take any of the maintenance exams? Maint. craft is where you want to be. Fook carrier or clerk jobs. IM for any other info. 40 years of PO experience in my household IIRC I scored a 95? Don't worry about scores, a lot of the candidates don't pass the piss test. |

Thanks. The letter I got today was the actual registry letter. Supposedly, the highest possible score for the new 473 exam is an 85 or 90. Add to that perfect score up to 10 points for a disabled veteran or 5 points for a regular one (like myself). I know the tests vary greatly as far as scores. 80-90% of all people who take the 473 fail from what I understand. Test failures rates may vary by locality to - some areas are more prone to uneducated people taking federal tests. I *think* I have a high probability of getting hired with an 86.4. Not sure exactly what competition I face. I would have taken a maintenance exam but had no mechanical background to justify it. I'm also on the custodial registry. Doesn't pay as well but it's still a great opportunity for this area. The Custodial exam was easy - I think I scored a 96 or 98 with my 5 point preference. |
Take the 931 Maint exam. The USPS promotes from within. All you need to do is score high and put in writing what you have done in the past that can constitute as a prerequisit. I had no formal maint experience and was hired. I must have wowed them in the interview. Thats how got into management
