Hello, are there any Winchester experts in the house. I have a little problem?

 What kind of Winchester?

Ok, it's a Winchester 30/30 Ranger model, and the lever always wants to fall out from
the locked closed position. I can even shake the rifle and the lever will open on me.
I have already replaced the detent and spring, and it didn't fix the problem. It's almost
like the detent isn't even doing it's job. Could my receiver have a worn spot where my detent is suppose to keep my lever locked in place?

Dump it and get a Marlin 336.  The Marlin is a much better rifle.  Winchester was a shirt salesman.

I dont think so . JMB design. Marlin is better if you want to do something as tacky as put a scope on a lever action.
then the Savage 99 is even better

This is what I was going to suggest.  I wonder if the detent housing is causing it to stick inside.  Maybe a burr in there?

Only you could tell me that

Another option...  Is the plunger lining up with the hole that forms the detent.  i.e. Does the part of the lever that carries the detent plunger travel far enough into the frame to line up with the hole?   Is there a hole?  Really, its just a shallow depression.  Shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose.  If there aren't wear marks on the frame, use a little white out to show where the plunger rubs or if it does at all.

The plunger is all the way out and it doesn't rub anywhere when closing the action.
This is driving me crazy.
