Man Tasered, Fatally Shot By Police
(CBS) DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. A 48-year-old man was Tasered and then fatally shot Tuesday by police, who were called to a Desert Hot Springs pizza parlor on a report of a fight between two men, authorities said.

Police responded to reports of a fight outside the Pizza Hut in the 14500 block of Palm Drive around 10 a.m., according to Corey Barnard, a dispatcher with the Desert Hot Springs police force.

Witnesses reportedly saw two homeless men arguing outside the eatery over a bicycle.

When officers arrived, they ordered the pair to stop fighting. But one of the men, who was believed to have a knife, allegedly refused to comply. He continued to act in a threatening manner, prompting one of the officers to use a Taser and then shoot him with his service revolver, Barnard said.

The man was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

Probably not. We once had the head of our training academy give an interview and talk about upgrades to our service revolvers that were occuring. Needless to say, there hasnt been a service revolver in this agency in probably 15 years.

Saw a JAX cop the other day with a wheel gun.  Looked like an old timer.  He was a Sgt IIRC.

I have seen a Glock referred to as a "revolver" in a newspaper article...

I know one detective that is past due for retirement that still carries a revolvers. I know a bunch of cops who carry a Jframe revolver as a back up weapon.

I know some cops who still use wheelguns. I also know of some DOC units that only use wheelguns. I also know trusting the newspaper to print good information is like screwing for virginity.

My VHS copy of Die Hard says in the synopsis on the back "...armed with only his service revolver..." when we all know it's a Beretta 92.

Although, I was in D.C. for Police Memorial Week this year, and when we visited the National Archives, all the security guards there had wheelguns. I as much ammo on my person as three of them with their six-shooters and 2 speedloaders.

In Houston I see Security Guards and LEOs with revolvers on a regular basis

ETA: Keep in mind that many people just can't cope with "machinery"........

Shot over a bicycle.

At least we won't have to worry about him using up welfare.  Better yet, more air for the rest of us!

Sure.  There are still some in HPD, grandfathered.  Lots of 1911s as well, also grandfathered.

I know of at least one police department that allows it.

I'd take a good colt or Smith revolver, as well as a 1911, over the Glocks that seem so pervasive nowadays

that said, he was probably carrying a semi

I've seen police in Chicago (reservists, IIRC) carry revolvers.
Also seen cops at Philadelphia Int'l Airport carrying revolvers.
One old hand was carrying a Model 19 in a Jordan Holster!

Chicago itself has no "reserve" LEO's AFAIK. They may have been old timers who were grandfathered or another agency.

Interesting observation I made last time I was in D.C. ....the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are guarded by security guards armed with Taurus revolvers. Looked just grand.....a noticely obese black woman with a cheesy rent-a-cop uniform and a "can I go home yet?" expression and a Brazilian revolver was guarding the very documents that define the existence of the greatest nation in history. I am not exaggerating any of these points, it was depressing.

On a side note, the motorcycle cops around the White House had HK P7s.

I've only seen armored car crews with wheelguns over here, no LEOs.

Doesn't Japan issue their police revolvers?

My wife is an editor at a newspaper, and I've tried my best to educate her about correct labeling.  She's gotten very good at making sure to not let stuff like "service revolver" or "clip" get through.  Sadly, I don't think there's a lot of reporters/editors at other papers who care.  To them, a gun's a gun.

In FL licensed security guards can only carry a 9mm auto or .38/.357 wheelgun.

I havent seen a LEO every carry a revolver outside of CCW or backup.

If I can qualify with it, I can carry it.  No larger that 45 cal and no smaller than 9mm.
