My public school education is failing me again.

I apologize for asking this question, but my brain started looping around the topic
and I got completely confused about the answer.

I'm writing a response to a guy who posted on my YouTube video about the 50 caliber ban
proposed in Illinois.  link
(his post was made 1 week ago)

He essentially says the government should ban "unsportsmanlike" firearms.

My question to GD is, WHY was the 2nd Ammendment written?

Wasn't part of it (or all of it) so the people (citizens) could protect themselves
from a tyrantical government?

That, and from idiots like the guy you are responding to.  Another person trying to decide the definition of a "sportsman like" weapon.  Hell, I would find it very sporting to blow watermelons apart at 1000 yds with a .50

The nation was never intended to have a standing gigantic army at all times. So the point of the militia was to serve as defenders of the nation against all usurpers, foreign AND domestic.
