Our poli sci class has an internet message board that we have to debate on to pass the class. One of the people said that no one needs guns as police officers can do the protecting. What was the court case that said that officers had no need to protect people, or could not be expected to arrive on time? I may be a little bit off on the exact subject matter but I know a similar court case exists. I want some facts to slam liberals who think that

"Automatic weapons are now legal to have at residences! How is that even a need for common people?! If you want to ensure you have the right to have weapons wouldn't a normal gun suffice to protect you...by making automatic weapons legal it seems that the government is condoning criminal activities instead of restricting it. Just beacuse some rish people feel they need to hunt doesn't mean the rest of the country should live in the constant fear of crime and another Virgina Tech. I believe the power of the NRA needs to be restricted before they control the government completely."

Did you also explain that even the cheapest automatic weapon costs thousands of dollars and takes months of paperwork to get?

... and have never been illegal?

I didn't explain the price of automatic weapons, but I am saving it for more 'ammunition' in the argument if they reply. Thanks alot for all the information.

If you really want our help post the link to the forum. I wrote a term paper on this for a Government class and got a 97 on it thanks to ARFCOM's help.
