I know-I have an appt with my GP in a couple of hours. I had a bout of sialadenitis a couple years ago-the submandibular gland was filled with stones. It appears that I am having a recurrence. I cannot press the gland clear, and any time I eat, the swelling increases VISIBLY. As in you can watch it grow. It is extremely painful to the touch and it hurts to even talk. Here's where my questions come from-I have had 3 back surgeries in the past year (between December and May) ending in a fusion. I had a great deal of nerve damage and subsequent pain. My PCD knows about my surgeries and med history (at one point I was taking 200mg MSERx8hrs and30MG MSIR 4hrs). I am currently taking 200 mg's Tramadol/day and it's working well for my back. I've developed a morphine allergy (ant bite feeling and my eyes turn blood red and feel like they're full of glass). Would I be out of line to ask for a pain med that has worked well for me in the past? I hate taking meds, but I hate agonizing pain even more. Dilaudid (8mg/3hrs) worked very well for me, and as much as I am loath to go back to something like that, I am almost in tears from the pain in my face. I don't want to sound like a drug seeker, but I (unfortunately) have had enough experience with pain to know what works...Is it out of line to ask for a specific med? Particularly when you know you are very tolerant and are in excruciating pain? GT Why the fuck can't I have a normal malady? DXd with Myasthenia Gravis at 19, my disk herniation was very far lateral, and sialadenitis seems to be a side effect of my azathioprine... |
My physician told me that any patient requesting a specific pain medication automatically raised the "Have we got abuse going on here?" flag for him. Prolly better to let him suggest meds and you explain why they work/don't work for you. JMHO, YMMV |
I dont think it would be out of line but be warned hydromorphone has a high risk for abuse ![]() ETA: Im wrong about it being taken off the market, turns out it was a time released form of it that was easily crushed up and abused. |
That's what I'm worried about, but because of my back, I've taken pretty much everything in the fucking pharmacy. I hate pain meds. they make me feel stupid and make it fucking impossible to get off. But if this shit don't stop soon, it's gonna get ugly. I've spent the past year in worlds of pain, and I am very very tired. |
6 months ago I was taking Dilaudid. Is that hydromorphone? trust me, the last fucking thing I want is more meds, but it's either that or a Ranger T. |
Im wrong, yes dilaudid is still on the market and it is one form of hydromorphone I was thinking of a similar drug with an extended release make up that heroin users abused. ETA: I know how you feel, my ankle is chronically messed up sometimes I have no choice but to take oxycotin. It works very well but its just the thought of taking it that bothers me. |
Last time this happened, they had to send me to the hospital and cut a giant hole in the duct-the ENT figured there were about 400 stones in the gland and duct-said it looked like a bag of rice blew up in my mouth. Should have had him remove the gland completely. My immune suppressants cause the stones to form-I drink TONS of water to try and avoid it. It's so jammed up that when I eat, you can actually watch it swell up. And no, fuckers, my wife gets my guns and ammo.

Ouch! Mine wasn't nearly that bad. Sure felt good when the pressure was released though. |
I've popped stones out that were the size of BBs before-it feels sooooo good when they go and the pressure drops, but I think I may be completely plugged up this time. I'm afraid to drink or eat anything because it increases the pressure. |
