Who in the hell designed the new spill proof nosle. WTF I have never gotten so much gas everywhere as trying to use this POS.

I finally threw out my old steel can & picked up a new one, as I was at the checkout lane I did look at the strange apparatus that serves as a spout. This is apparently to save us from polluting the world around us w/ spilled gas.  If anyone can use one of these things WITHOUT getting gas all over themselves let me know what the hell I'm doing wrong.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me where I can get a regular can w/ a reular nosle.

can't even buy a good gas can anymore...........

LOL! I thought the same exact thing, but the secret is, you need to buy 2 of them, and the second one might work, if not you need to buy a third one then you'll probably be all set!

I've got the self-venting nozzle. I hate that fucking thing! Takes forever to pour 5 gallons into the tank of the truck now. Time I've poured five of those, I could have driven to the damn gas station and filled up.

Expedition Exchange in CA has new NATO style gas, diesel, and water cans at reasonable prices. Very nice, easy to pour and they don't leak.

I just threw two of the older Blitz cans to the curb, literally.
My USGI surplus cans are outstanding.

Still have two of the cheaper 1gal and 2gal cans for the mower and trimmer, though.

I clicked on the link & those are some damn nice gas cans. BUT I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA & THEY WONT SELL ME ONE!

The idea behind the new damn spout is to prevent spills when the can tips over. I don't know about you folks here but I have never knocked over a gas can. Even if I had, I know damned well I could set it upright & still spill less gas than using the new spout in a normal fashion.

Excuse me, I need to check the list again to see what state I have to drive to so I can buy a freakin gas can.

HA, I just ordered two  cans from sportsmans guide.   They are surplus swiss 5 gal cans w/ a real honest to god spout.

They are not red however & I will have to be careful as to which gas stations I go to get fuel.

Wrong color you know.

Go to Home Depot...
They have a paint department...
If you are lucky, you may find a can of red spraypaint...but get their early...they might sell out of it

In some states, selling a non PC gas can is illegal.

I think it's federal regs that require a gas can to be painted red.

it's illegal to transport gasoline in non-red containers.

it's important.  if you get in a bad wreck, people trying to help you out need to know if you have 20 gallons of gas in the back.

Youve never read the fine print on the pumps?

You can only dispense gas into 'approved' containers.

Of course I didnt know there were gas can nazi's that enforced it anywhere...

I've been getting gas in my OD surplus 20L cans for a couple years now.

They're beautiful, and I am not about to slather some ugly Red Rust-o-leum all over the outside of them.

Actually, it's usually a local ordinance that prohibits non-red cans.

You are correct, about a month ago I was getting gas & the guy next to me was putting gas in a blue (or yellow can't remember) & the fat nasty station attendant came out & told him that was not allowed. NO SHIT. & I live kinda out in the boonies.

Do I have to put a bumper sticker on my car that says, "Warning!  Vehicle may contain 20 gallons of fuel!"

Or do people just naturally assume that a vehicle contains gas?

I have a 5 gallon "can" for diesel...it is yellow.  It has a 5/8" flexible plastic nozzle and a manual vent valve.  Best one yet as it doesn't spill a drop and pours fast enough.

Got busted at co-go's trying to fill the green cans last night. The fuel NAZI hauled her super size behind out the door when she saw the heinous crime I was about to commit.

Will try BP today, I think perhaps I will try it during the day as the fuel attendants many not be as vigilant during the daylight hours.

I refuse to paint the cans & I refuse to use the nosles designed by someone who rode the short bus for the greater part of thier life.

I use 20 gallon clear Nalgene containers, but I discretely put the container right near the truck's tank and so the attendant can't see my container. Never had a problem.

Yup; being designed by politicians they create more pollution than the old type.

I hate those new fucking cans.

Good idea on the placement of the conatiner. Problem, how in the hell do you pick up 20 gal of fuel in sit it in the back of the pickup.

Surely you are not filling the conatianer in the back of the truck. Thats illegal as well.

Shit.
I chucked two of the older containers two weeks ago (I have replaced them with Scepter USGI cans), but I still have one of the newest cans.

What a freaking mess.
Gasoline everywhere trying to fill the lawnmower.

A California CARB invention?

The coolest gas cans I have are the 20L German WW2 ones-wartime dated, and stamped "Wehrmacht" on them. I bought them from a guy who often went to Europe searching for WW2 German stuff. I probably have 20 WW2 cans-German, US, and British.
Stations around me insist on the proper colored cans also. I have a postwar German one painted blue for kerosene. I use plastic ones for my tractors-I haven't seen these new nozzles, though.

Typical "environmental" solution: it causes more problems than the problem it was built to solve in the first place.  I've spilled more gasoline with these "spillproof" cans in a year than I did in the 20 years prior using "conventional" gas cans.
