I got one once on my personal home computer two years ago that said Attention USER: We have monitored that you computer has been used to view over 160 illegal websites. To aid you with this issue we require your full name, birth date, current address, and social security number to ensure your innocence in this issue. Best wishes, some guy in the FBI. Only it wasn't and FBI web address, and why would they Email me about it, let alone that I have never viewed any kind of website that would be considered illegal. I told my dad who is an LEO and he had a good laugh.

Back in the good ol'days of AOL 2.5 usage: IM: Hello, my name is Chuck, from AOLBilling Dept. Due to an unforseen massive crash in our system, we are having to re-enter everyone's account information. Please IM me with your name, birth date, password and creditcard info. This information is for verification only. Failure to due so will result in suspension/termination of your account. Thank you, Chuck AOLBilling (Steve took over Chuck's job the very next week with the same IM ) |
