If they reinstated the draft for 18-45 year olds and you could pick a service; which would you pick and why.

USMC because I was one once.

The Corps used draftees as remf's in the Nam so I was told as they had enough volunteers for the Combat Arms.

Navy, because I'm a retired Army 19D and have to go to tne VA for a bunch of injuries that have crept up on me.  My Navy buddies in VFW don't ave a thing wrong with them and have the same retirement I have.  All the Gung Ho is bullshit when you are in constant pain, alone in the VA.

Marines get better chow than Army or Navy, when they're not eating MREs that is.

Air force is better duty as far as keeping all your parts and having something like a normal life.

If they draft it'll be for Army grunts, we have plenty of air and sea power.

No.

They draft people into the Army usually.

Given the choice I would choose the Army. The Marines shout too much.

I have always had the highest respect and admiration for the Marine Corps....but my US Army Sargent E6 father, US Army Sargent E6 Grandfather, US Army Lt. Colonel Grandfather, as well as, US Army Great grandfathers, US Army Great great grandfathers.....US Continental Army Great great great great great great Grandfather.....would probably all kick my ass if I did not say Army.

If the shit really hit the fan, and we had a push for war like we did in WWII or Vietnam -- which we don't come close to in GWOT - I would probably discuss my options with a USMC recruiter.

I suspect my lottery number would be kind of low being 32+ years old.

Marine Corps would be my choice.

Though I'd have to conceal my technical experience or I would end up in the Air Force.

Being that I am in the Army, I would pick that.

US Army; because I've already served with them for 12 years, but I can take USAF ina pinch, don't mind having a cushy job; God knows I've pounded enough dirt with the Army already.

<------ I'll give you one big guess which service I picked.

The Coast Guard has a long, proud history of serving our country in times of need, from The War of 1812, to the Harriet Lane in Charleston Harbor, up to escorts across the Atlantic in WWI, to Normandy, Guadalcanal, and countless other landing as well as port security missions stateside, including 11 sunken submarines.

We flew CSAR in Korea and Vietnam, as well as running maritime interdiction in the latter.

We have been responsible for explosive shipping and handling in many major conflicts.

We were part of Operation Just Cause. We have put boots on the ground in Haiti, South America, and the Middle East.  We protected oil terminals and platforms during Desert Storm, and continue that task to this day.  We cleared eleven Iraqi oil platforms before DS was launched.  We also continue the maritime interdiction mission in that same theater today.

Our people were amongst the first responders in New York and Washington on 9/11.  We work day and night to keep our great nation safe, whether we rescue you from your flooded neighborhood, or protect critcal infrastructure and vital assets.

Thanks for remembering the CG in your poll, too many people forget.

I would go back into the Army.  I was in the Marines for 5 years active duty and the AZARNG for 2 years and I thought there were more opportunities in the Army for me.

My dad was drafted by the Army but he was in the Navy Reserves at the time. So he was drafted by the Navy during the Korean War. Spent the whole time in Sanford FL by the swimming pool teaching Navy recruits to swim. Another guy I worked with was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He said that the Marines came in the room and picked out a bunch of guys from their group to go to Vietnam. He ended up being sent to Germany to work on a train during his duty. So you never know where they will put you.

I had some good times in the Army as a 11b in the 82nd, but I also had my fill of shit too.
While in I learned that the Airforce lives like kings compared to the Army and Marine's.
I went to alot of Airforce bases while traveling in the Army for special duty and they always had the best chowhalls and chow and the best living quarters and pluses.
I'd go Airforce no doubt.
The Navy's not even a consideration to me. Screw the possibility of getting stuck on a boat for God knows how long.

Did I mention the Airforce rides a stationary bike for their PT test and I don't care about the gung-ho stuff anymore?

Hey, hey, hey............I wish. I happen to be retired Navy with a major disability rating, spend entirely too much time at the VA (and the VFW) and, yes, most of my "disabilities" are from combat duty/wounds....sustained many moons ago.

Don't go trying to convince yourself that just 'cause your Navy that somehow you'll be safe...

Ha! Wish it was true...

And I'd chose the Marine myself...just 'cause I always liked the grunts I served with and love those uniforms.

Otherwise, who cares when your getting shot at....it's a rush just the same.

Navy, probably. Actually, if a draft were inevitable, I'd probably sign up with the Navy trying to go into NAVOCS for a commission (assuming of course that I'd have graduated college and be otherwise qualified by then).

I can’t be drafted; I have an exception if my number comes up! I’m all ready IN! Talk to all the recruiters a year out of High School, the only one that could deliver what I wanted, money for college, airborne school, combat arms, and a bonus, was the US Army! I won’t say what year that was but Ronald Reagan was President.

I remember getting a letter to sign up for selective service a few months before my 18th birthday.  Problem was I was already at basic at Ft Benning.  My Drill laughed at it when I asked him.  Son, don't worry about it, anyone says anything tell them I said it was OKay.

Air Force or Coast Guard. I'm prior enlisted with a BS and a captain's license; if I'm getting drafted I'm getting bars on my shoulders and a small boat under my feet (that is if the Air Force still has the SAR boats.)

I'd go Coast Guard

I did the Army gig as a  young man.  It was great and it really made me grow up.  Plus being a 12B (combat engineer) was fun.

My son has been in the USCG for the past year.  He's done a lot of good stuff since he was in and he's loving it.  Plus it seems as though they treat their people pretty well.  My father in law said he joined the USCG during WWII because they had the shortest line.  He ended up getting on a LST in Pittsburgh, dodged kamikaze's at Okinawa and hit Japan after the bombs were dropped.  Here is his LST off of Okinawa

I never knew about the Coast Guard growing up in central Pa.  They do more than I would have ever guessed.
