I am a new member but am curious what the legal ramifications are with posting on a unique site like this.

I love the wisdom and advice seasoned gun owners have for a newbie like myself but am curious if, god forbid, a situation would come up when posting might be used against someone in court.

Example, what if someone legally defended themself (home defense or other) yet the other side (lawyer) tried to make them look like a gun fanatic because they frequented this this or other gun-realted sites.

I feel it is important to be informed and responsible if you make the decision to own a firearm. In my mind sites like this promote responsibility and education.

From what little knowledge I am learning about the legal system, lawyers can make things look really twisted to try and win their case (even if you are in the right).

Does anyone know more about this?

Thanks.

This is the internet.

Did you sign anything saying you have to tell the truth?

There are people here who are completely made up, figments of the imagination.

Don't take it too seriously.

Would I lie to you?

I thought I recognized you from my Space Shuttle Door Gunner days.  Keeping busy?  The shuttle slow-down put a lot of us on the street.

Basic safety tips:

Don't post pics with your face or visually distinguishing marks visible

Don't use the same username on all the websites you frequent

Don't use a distinctive username that's easy to Google

Hide your email address on forums whenever possible

Use an anonymizing proxy server

Don't post anything you wouldn't want read to a jury

Thanks Radiant556 - those are all good points.

Smoke and mirrors.

In Boston's Gun Bible he talks about never using the internet (yet that is how I found out about his book).

Better talk with Fred @Fred's M-14 stocks.
