Anyone have one yet?  I haven't researched them much yet, but I'm guessing they basically give you access to your cable/satellite box via the internet?  Do they work worth a crap?  If they are a legit product, there is going to be one on my setup in the living room before I leave for Afghanistan.

Input?  Comments?  Thoughts?

Thanks

I have had one for about a year now. They work extremely well.  The problem is you need a dedicated cable box for it.  Why??  Because you basically take control of the cable box remotely and it gets annoying to have someone at home trying to change channels while your watching tv. ( you don't have to have a seperate box but trust me)  The interface is very cool, everything you would see on your tv is on your computer screen or pda.  The on screen guide, on demand, dvr, everything.  I have even hooked it up to a 300 disc dvd changer and used it as a portable movie server using Slingbox mobile for Pocket PC's.  You do need a fast upload speed at home to help cut down on buffering/stuttering (1mb is my upload speed and it sometimes stutters).  Hope this helps.

You buy the box from whoever(Best Buy, Newegg, etc.), hook it up to a cable/satellite box and hook it up to a router.  You then launch the software, punch in the Unique ID the box gave you when you set it up and that's it.  It works where ever you get a internet connection.  There is no monthly cost to pay and the thing is solid as a rock reliable.  I have never had a issue with it.  Slingbox makes you a ubergeek but it's worth it.

What's the minimum upload speed needed? I get about 138 Kb/s up at home, but I don't know if that's fast enough.

If my math is good that's about 1mb up.  That's what i have and it's pretty smooth about 95% of the time.  Cable sucks but since no FIOS, i deal with it.

No, it's 138 Kilobits, so it's much slower than 1 mb/s.

I just read that 256 Kb/s up is recommended. It looks like I'll need a faster connection, I just haven't decided if I want to spend the money for FIOS.
