How many of y'all are golfers? How often do you get around? Just wondering. If you hate golf, think golf sux, think golf is stupid or prefer masturbating in mom's basement over golf, that is fine, just don't crap this thread up, if it actually gets any response.

When I was in the golf business I played 4 or 5 times per week. Since leaving it has been few and far between. My last outing was canceled after the first hole due to rain, my next event is in two weeks and I am pumped. I really need to find some clients who are into golf so I can have an excuse to take them as a company/marketing event. 96Ag |
Golf, guns and football are 3 things I will not let rain stop me from doing (as long as the lightning ain't popping)

I'm a greenskeeper, so I'm just dropping in so you guys can thank me for how nice the course looks. I golf once in a while (perk: free tee times once a week) with a set of clubs from the pro-shop. It's enjoyable when you are not paying, IMO. I mostly take girls there on dates - they get impressed when they think I can afford $300 worth of greens fees.

I used to think Golf was the dumbest sport ever invented. Then my brother in laws took me out golfing last Christmas. I got hooked, got a set of clubs and gear but I dont get out there as often as I would like. To many other hobbies taking up my time. Besides, I have a wicked slice I need to keep working on, so it's more time at the driving range than the golf course for me. What's nice is that the shooting range and the driving range are across the street from each other. One afternoon, no travel. Of course, someone has to post this... Robin Williams on Golf |

I play, but not often enough, maybe once every two months. Here in Houston, we normally play more in the winter than summer. I am about a 5 handicap, fwiw. There are many similarities between golf and competition shooting. Outdoors, against yourself just as much as against the competitors. Your score is dependant upon you interaction with the equipment. It is a good time!! |

been playing since I was 5 or 6 years old. I don't get out as much as I used to (bout once every two weeks), but I did play in Mexico a couple weeks ago. Pok Ta Pok was a beautiful course, although not terribly long. Coastal wind kept things interesting (I played the ball back and kept it low). |
hey, yeah I meant to ask you how the south of the border golf was. I usually play better in a moderate wind, all things being equal. |
The SO's dad is a master diver and had a few connections and I was able to get a tee-time on pretty short notice. Greens Fees for Pok Ta Pok were ~$60 w/ caddie. The grass is beautiful and the bunker sand was too damn soft . Half-buried and "fried eggs" were the norm so it required a pretty aggressive swing into the back half of the ball. The greens needed repair, but the fairways were in decent shape. All in all, it was a novel experience playing in Mexico. My biggest fears were for my clubs...the amigos aren't particularly "caring" with the luggage. When I go back, I'll play someplace else. Didn't have too many choices...damn hurricane kinda required us to expedite the trip. |
![]() I've played on and off for the past 10 years or so, but this Summer for whatever reason I caught the bug pretty bad, upgraded all of my gear from my starter ssset, and have been trying to play as often as I can, or at least get to the driving range to practice. Since April (which is a pretty early start in New England) I've managed to get in at least 2 or 3 rounds a month, with the occasional 9 hole round dropped in. Still got some major milestones I'm working on. Trying to break 100 now. My last round (best of the Summer) was 108. Still haven't made my first birdie, though I've had a few opportunities. Not taking it too seriously, if I end up playing well that day, great, otherwise just having fun with the guys, drinking some beers, smoking some cigars ... being guys. |
My nephew is like that. He is eight, and a pro coach saw his swing at the range and is now teaching him for free. He is competing in local competitions around Pennsylvania with kids several years older than him and is not only competitive, he is winning some of them. He's a natural athlete and excels at any sport, but his dad (one of the bro-in-law's that got me started) is an avid golfer and has had him swinging since he was about three I believe. |
