has anyone ever taken the post-ban fixed muzzle break off a CAI CETME? Is it pressed on or threaded on and tackwelded/blind pinned? I want to swap this for a regular CETME f/h but don't want to just start cutting away at the break with my dremel without a clue as to how it's attached. Also I need a new hand guard screw, where can I find one?

Hand guard screw?

Its a push pin, not a screw.

The good news is that those are cheap.

As for the muzzlebreak, I am sure that the folks a www.militaryfirearm.com could answer your question (I am a member there).

It's pinned on through the bottom. Just dremel some metal off until you see it and you can pull it out. Then unscrew it.

how does that work?  won't I be grinding down the pin as I grind down the metal?

All you're doing is removing the weld holding the pin. The welded hole should be on the underside close to the barrel. Use a good light to look for the area where the weld was ground off. Use a dremel to remove the weld until you see the pin clearly and then use a rubber mallet or something to hit the top of the break. If it doesn't come out after a few blows, grind more away.

Something else I've done is cut the brake almost into two and then use a wedge or chisel to split it the rest of the way. Just watch that you don't cut into the barrel. I've used both methods to remove brakes that were pinned. It's not hard to do if you take your time.

Cut it right down the middle.  Put a screw driver in the notch and twist.  It is shitty pot metal.  You then unscrew or break it open more, then off.  Take a wire brush to the thread and done.  I did 7 of these.  If you put a surplus flash suppresor on a black widow (the one with synthetic stocks) your 922R count most certainly will be off.  If you care anyway.

You would need an American part to fix the count.  Those are hard to find.

Thats what I did.  It worked.  But don't cut the fucking barrel!  Like I did...
