It's a book. Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt

Has anyone read this?  I have not, but I think I'm going to put it on the list.  Part of the book relates Roe. v. Wade with lower crime statistics in the late 80s and beyond (about 18 years after Roe)...  Sociologists/Statisticians in the early 70s were distraught at the rising crime rate.  Compared with the 50s and early 60s, the crime rate of the early 70s was alarmingly high.  Given the trend, they were looking at an unimaginable crime rate if something weren't done.  Well, along comes Roe v. Wade and 15 years later the crime rate is dropping--and has more or less continued to drop for some time.

Discuss.

Great book.

Regardless of your position on abortion, it is hard to argue that less children born into urban poverty and the "dont snitch" culture could equate to less violent criminals down the road. Great book.

I read it.  They do say that abortion was a major factor in lowering crime rates.  They also discuss how having a swimming pool at your home is much more dangerous than having guns in your home.

Read "Freedomnomics" by John Lot. It's a rebuttal to freakonomics.

Interesting.  Debate by book.  I think I'll have to read both.
