I am calling on anyone with advice or experience with aforementioned  title.

I was blessed with twin boys 10 months ago.  The wife and I have been taking photos since the first day.  It is coming around to their first birthday and we think it would be nice to get a recording device for these special occaisions.  The question is what kind?  We will probably only use it for birthdays/holidays.  We much prefer photos.  So what to get?

Please offer uo any advice or experience.  Also if you know of a web site that I can go to for information, it would be appreciated.

I've got a Sony DCR-TRV27  Mini-DV Digital Handycam.  Bought it in 2002.

Firewire output so you can feed video from the camera to the PC.

It has far more features that I would ever use, but it has been a great camera so far.

If I had to replace it, I would try to find the newest version of the same thing.

Now they have HI-DEF models for the same as what we paid for this one.

And versions with internal hard drives instead of recording to tapes.

Lots of things to consider.
