| What is it? |

Depends on who you ask... Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward; Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both; Fore a wounded main shall say to his assailant; "If I live, I will kill you, if I die, you are forgiven" Such is the rule of honor.

Honor is many things. It is respecting the opinion of others even if you do not agree. It is being courteous in the face of abject stupidity and rudeness. It is being respectful of others, tolerating the abject stupidity of the idiots, knowing when to speak and when not to. But most of all it is....... knowing that there are people out there willing to fight and die to give you the right not to do any of this. Thank you, everyone, who chooses to put their life at risk for others and our country. |
I think you are confusing Honor with "Diversity" and "Political Correctness" |

Thanks for the replies. My answer is, honor is remaining true to your sense of ethics or morals, even when it's inconvenient at the moment. The ultimate betrayal of that honor is to refuse to face the truth when it would cause you to have to act to your detriment according to your own ethics. Clearly I'm a lawyer, not a poet! |
I like that definition. I was going to say integrity, I think they are kind of synonymous, but with different connotations in most usage. I think your definition cover's it. For example, a Samarai might end his own life to recover his 'honor'. The word 'integrity' isn't used in that example because it isn't strong enough a word. Honor is like extreme integrity. At least that's how I use the word. |
