does it looked properly staked? shouldn't the punch be closer on the first screw?

The punch should upset the threads enough to resist unassisted turning of the fastener. The green-lined fastener is NO WAY impeded, and I question the other.

Ain't even close.

Part of the edge should be peened over the top of the bolt head.

To do it right, you should replace the screw (or both), retorque and properly stake.

I'd just check it's tight and stake it.

Open up [url]http://old.ar15.com/books/TM9-1005-319-23.pdf[/url] and goto pages 131 & 142 for proper staking.

I didn't think it was right but since it just came back from Armalite service (with one job item being "restake gas key") I thought maybe I was missing msomething....

Please, tell me you're kidding. Armalite did that? Their reputation is shot, so to speak.

I'm no gunsmith, but if the person that did that worked for me, they'd be out in the parking lot in a minute, along with the quality control inspector.

yup... Armalite did it... rifle is going back today. If it was only the gas key I'd restake it myself but the chamber is still way out of spec... It's a beautiful looking rifle, great fit and finish... it just doesn't shoot!

LOOKS ARE NOT EVERYTHUN>>>>>Send it back, make them pay shipping both ways and tell them over the phone and in the letter accompanying the gun, what YOU expect from them and then have them ship it back NEXT day air.....everyone on this forum will tell you...A SATISFIED CUSTOMER IS A REPEAT CUSTOMER!!!!!

Unfortunately, I've seen at least a dozen Armalite carriers just like that, both AR15s and AR10s...
