[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Cracked Mortar = Foundation Problem?

We noticed some small cracking in one of the corners of our house in the mortar running about waist-height. It doesn't look like there's any sagging or problems on the inside of the house... I've seen some pretty nasty pictures of foundation problems, and it doesn't look at all that serious; I'm curious though how you can tell the difference between just old brick that needs to be re-mortared and an actual foundation problem? Are all cracks foundation problems? Anybody got any experience with this?

Check the expansion joint in the wall usually found halfway between the house corners of a fully bricked wall section.If the gap is wider at the top than the bottom,then one corner or the other is settling.

If you are worried about it then contact a structural engineer to have a look. It costs a few hundred dollars but should put your mind in the right direction.

Hmm well the look like they've been there for quite a while... I guess I'm just noticing them. My guess is settlement cracks. I might have it looked at though, thanks.
