I need a new video card, as well as a faster processor.
My computer is a shop build that has a Pentium 3 board and a P3 processor- 450mhz. It's mid '90s era when they hadn't broken the 1 gig barrier for cpu speed.
A friend has a video card he will give me. He used it for gaming but bought a better one he is currently using.
The card he will give me is, he thinks, an AGP card. Will that work on my board?
He also has a proccessor and motherboard he would give me, but one or the other is bad. Is there a way to tell if the processor is good? If so I can seriously upgrade my computer.
If both will work I could have a decent system, like I did when it was built.

Help. Tell me something good!

Find a local parts warehouse or go online and get a CPU/motherboard/Ram package deal and you should be able to ramp up to around 2-4 Ghz without much problem, for around $200. Get a decent motherboard, Asus, Gigabyte, or Abit if you can manage it, make sure a fan and heatsink, with grease comes with the CPU, and make sure it has an AGP port.

I've never had much luck with a new CPU in an old MB, or vice versa. Just buying problems down the road.

Thanks. When the guy built mine he told me to remember that I had a full P3 p[rocessor- that the heat sink and fan would handle up to a 900mhz processor. I think that was as fast as they went then. I have thought about finding a 900mhz or 1ghz Pentium 3 or 4 processor and plugging it in.
