Does anyone have any knowledge about these bikes?  www.rokon.com
They look like they would be awesome to take to the mountains or just as a nifty hunting/camping vehicle.   I would definitely like to here from some people who have or have had one of these things. Are they as tough as they say?   I hate to drop $5,500 on one and find out that they are junk, and their is no one close to me that is listed as a dealer for me to go look them over, so I would be buying sight unseen from the manufacturer.  The one I am interested in is the Trail-Breaker.

I test drove a new one a few years ago.  It's a neat concept, but not near worth the price.   It has a only a 6 or 7 horse power motor.  Its unstreetable at a 25mph top speed.  At the upper third of its RPM range the buzz is horrible.  It has the feel, fit, and finish of a lawn mower.

I know Yamaha is working on a 2 wheel drive 125 that's going to make the Rocon obsolete.

I really, really wanted to like it, but I could just not get past the price.

I remember those, but I have no experience with them.

That's where I am.   You can get a 4X4 ATV for about the same money.  But I like the 2 wheeler thing, I am just affaid that if I bought one, I would feel like I got kicked in the jewels if it was cheesy.  (and it sounds like it is)

Here is an other thing; if your buddies ride trail bikes or ATV's there is no way you'd keep up.

I saw a russian model once that it looked like an army guy was riding. it looked like it was built like a tank and it was a diesel!

I want one of those...

Loud , slow  , short range , underpowered and overpriced

Other then that , they do go where other forms of transport won't
including 4wd ATV's . I used to ride ATV's with a guy who owned one
and got to use it several times . It was fun in it's element , but that
element is too small to justify the price IMO .

About 10 to 12 years ago I spent a bunch of time riding one, I am 25 now, so I was almost too little to handle it but I managed. A friend of mine had one, it would go anywhere you could walk. Thats the only thing nice about it is it could go places a ATV couldnt in a woods due to the trees and such. It is a BEAST to handle and we were busting the key on the drive shaft of the engine quite often. It rides like a tractor, ROUGH. They arent worth it for the price, they havent changed at all. It was a neat concept for sure, but technology these days should make it better. Oh, it was a bear to handle in the sloppy mud with the front tire digging and spinning.

The two-wheel-drive Yamahas are in no way, shape, or form comparable to the Rokon offerings.  The Rokon is more like a John Deere farm tractor in that it is a utility implement.  Recreational riding isn't its specialty, unless your idea of recreation is slowly traversing very rugged trails while loaded down with "stuff."

For the price, I'd buy a 4x4 utility ATV before I bought the Rokon.  Yes, it can't go quite as many places because of its larger size, but it is infinitely more useful and has a lot more power as well.

My grandparents had one on their farm, long before I was born.

I was told they can be ridden ANYWHERE there's even just semi-solid ground--but they're quite slow by motorcycle standards. If you had the drum wheels, the old ones would float if you dropped them into deep water.

They're also maintenance hogs too (or at least, they were ~30 yrs ago).
