Basically there are 2 kinds. The one I have is on some rural property owned by my sister, and the nearest cell tower is just over a ridge and 3 miles away. I plug my phone into it and it amplifies both the outgoing and incoming signals. Simple? The other kind, and which is about 4x as expensive, is a 'repeater' type, which is actually a miniature radio station. This kind transmits the local signal, so you don't have to plug your phone into it. The cheapie can be had (IIRC) for less than $250 or so on Ebay. The other is at least 3-4x as expensive. |
