A guy I know from work wants to buy a gun, his first. Asks me to go with him to check out the weapon. I say ok. Its a Glock 19, with 3 mags. We all pop off a couple mags and I comment that the mags are illegal in Ca. Nothing is said other then how stupid Ca. is. I tell my work friend (dont know this guy other then I work with him) its a good gun at a good price. He hands the guy three 100 dollar bills and the guy hands him the gun, the mags and the gun case. ? What would you do? I will post what I did after your comments. |
He can't possibly... He said it himself: "stupid CA." You already told him that it might be illegal. Let it be. |
There's your mistake, getting involved in a gun transaction, with a stranger, where you are neither the buyer nor the seller. Water under the bridge, now, though. |

As soon as I had even a hint that something illegal was going on (like selling a Glock for $300 cash, no FFL in Cali, with high cap mags) I'd promptly leave and call it good. I wouldn't call the police, but I wouldn't have any part in it, either. If my friend wants to do something illegal, he's going to have to do it without me. If I was his ride, then either he leaves with me, or he stays behind with the Glock. His choice. |

Ok, this guy was buying his first firearm. He's 21 and that isnt a good way to start off collecting firearms. I stopped the sale and explained the laws. I told them the gun shop will do the sale for $40 and is less then 10 minutes away. the seller had no problem with this. It was his first (and only) gun he bought 8 years ago and doesnt want it in the house with his kids. sale was commpleted legally 25 minutes later. |

Your co-worker is a fucking douche-bag for knowingly making you a witness to his illegal activity by not telling you in advance what he was planning. Would I rat him out? Probably not, but I sure would put him on my "stay the hell away from that idiot son of a bitch" list. On the other hand....If you KNEW he was going to purchase the gun illegally and you still agreed to go him, well, then you are the fucking douchebag for making this post. |
![]() Considering the FTF is illegal in CA (which I didn't know until others explained it), I think the way you handled it was perfect - especially since the FFL transfer will protect the buyer from getting stolen property. |
And in this case, disregard my previous post! ![]() Well done.ETA: In your OP, you *did* imply that the sale was completed illegally, thus my earlier comments. |
Whoah whoah, ease up. A lot of new gun owners in California aren't hip to the laws. Take it easy on his coworker. He's educated now, and they did the transfer legally. |
Wow it was just a good deal then, sounded like it was hot. 40 bucks is very high for a phonecall to the feds, but thats california for you. |
Alright, perhaps I was a bit harsh, but the "ignorance is bliss" argument is one of the reasons guns have such a bad reputation in this country. If you own or want to own a firearm, it's your responsibilty to understand the laws regarding firearms. Violating the laws using ignorance as a defense just gives ammo to the liberal argument for gun control. |
Isnt it great to find good deals...lol Ever hear the story of the 1969 mustang fastback with less then 5 original miles stored in a barn and sold for the original sticker price of $5000...lol |
