Hey guys I am doing some research for a website I have to make for my computing class. I have chosen to do biometric security; I hope a few of you can help me out. What I would like to know from those that use biometric security whether you use it at home or work or anywhere else. Why did you (Or who ever) choose biometrics security other available systems? Why did you replace previous systems with biometrics? (If applicable) What problems if any have you encountered with your system? Do you encounter difficulty with certain genders/ethnic group/trades people? (Applicable if you use finger print scanners) Do you like your biometric system? Why? Do you have any privacy concerns with giving people your biometric data to be stored in data bases that could possible be stolen or hacked? What kind of system do you use and for what? (You don’t need to go into detail a simple answer is fine. e.g. Finger print scanner – entry to restricted areas.) Also I read an article about US embassy’s using biometric security for all foreigners who enter, is someone able to elaborate on what kind of biometric system they are using as I haven’t been able to find anything more on it and don’t have the time to take a trip to the city to go through the process myself before this website is needed to be complete. Thanks Chris |

We have installed several fingerprint reader systems. They have all pretty much worked well with one exception. We have a client at a cheese factory who did not want their employees digging in their pockets for access cards or fobs due to cleanliness reasons. So we suggested fingerprint readers at the doors to the cheese processing room. The problem was, the employees had to wash their hands so many times per day, the constant washing literally washed their fingerprints off. We ended up replacing the biometric readers with keypads. Problem solved. We have never had an opportunity to install any other biometric technology. We suggest to the client to store his database on an independent computer isolated from the network for security reasons. Not only to keep hackers out but to keep any spurrious information out of the database. rebuilding a database sucks. Especially when the client neglects to do a backup. |
