You will all aplaud my actions. My neighbor told me last night that he swore there was a kitten under his trailer and has for a few days. This morning I pulled on some grubby clothes, grabbed the surefire, and when kitten hunting. 80 foot trailer, I crawled from the front to the back on my hands and knees before I saw them, two 3-4 wk old kittens, scrawny and half dead. When I went to grab them they took off, after an hour and a half I finally caught both of them. I have been bitten and scratched. After myself and the neighbors calmed them down we fed them milk through large syringes without the needles. I don't know if they will survive long as they look pretty mal nourished. They will be off to the proffesionals at the humane society tommorow. I would like to keep one, but I am unsure of what kind of housecats they would make. The best part, I HATE CATS. I did this only because I couldn't stand to see the little guys die a slow painful death. |

You did good! Once upon a time I had a feral mother cat give birth to three kittens underneath my front porch, and soon thereafter she got hit by a car and died. Thus, I inherited three kittens so tiny I could hold all three in the palm of my hand. I took them in, and fed them via eye dropper and syringe until they grew and graduated to wet kitten food. I already had several other cats in my "family" and while nursing the kittens kept telling myself that once the kittens were weaned I would find them homes. Long story short: having "invested" such time and emotions nurturing the kittens I ended up making them a part of my "family". Although having been initially been born in the wild, they "socialized" completely and were the very best of cats: responsive, intelligent, and loving. They seemed to look upon me as the alpha cat, and were my friends for many years. One yet survives at the age of 13. His name is Caleb, a short haired orange tabby. I wonder that when one rescues an animal if somehow they remember this fact and treat you accordingly.... |
Good luck with helping the kittens. Your heart's in the right place. ( With the recipe, I mixed it until it was sort of a medium slurry. ) |
| actually there's a recall on some kitten replacment milk, as there is with a lot of cat foods, my advice would be to buy canned goats milk. They'll grow up to be great cats being so small they'll become tame really quickly if they aren't already. You should keep both of them, they'll grow up and enjoy life as siblings and you'll be glad you did.. |

Both of ours we saved from the outdoors as kittens. If you nuture them while they're weak and defenseless, you'll end up with a friend that will greet you at the door, always want to be in the same room as you, and curl up in your lap every time you sit down. If you're not a cat person, you'll be shocked how loyal a cat whos life you saved will be. |
