After the VT shooting, I wrote Senator Lieberman a letter about CCW on campuses. The following is his response, none of which has a damned thing to do with what I talked about.

Dear Blue_Genes:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about gun control following the tragic shooting on the Blacksburg, Virginia campus of Virginia Tech.

I am stunned and angered by the horrific shooting that took the lives of so many students and faculty at Virginia Tech on the morning of April 16, 2007. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy, their family and friends, and to the entire Virginia Tech community.

While Americans have the right to own guns, there are also responsibilities that come with that right. Those significant responsibilities include ensuring that guns are used safely and responsibly, that criminals and others precluded by federal and state law cannot obtain weapons, and that our children are kept safe from harm.

Current federal law, the Gun Control Act of 1968 (P. L. 90-618), bans the possession of a firearm by persons convicted of any non-business related felony, minors, users of illegal drugs, and persons found to be mentally incompetent. I therefore supported the Brady law, which mandates background checks to ensure that those seeking to buy guns are lawfully allowed to do so and have cosponsored legislation that would close the gun show loophole - which allows convicted felons, among others, to evade the Brady background checks. You will also be interested to know that I voted in the past to reauthorize the Assault Weapons Ban, and I supported Senator Edward Kennedy's (D-MA) efforts to broaden the definition of armor piercing ammunition.

Please be assured of my commitment to ensuring that the public is protected while preserving our constitutional rights.

My official Senate web site is designed to be an on-line office that provides access to constituent services, Connecticut-specific information, and an abundance of information about what I am working on in the Senate on behalf of Connecticut and the nation. I am also pleased to let you know that I have launched an email news update service through my web site. You can sign up for that service by visiting http://lieberman.senate.gov and clicking on the "Subscribe Email News Updates" button at the bottom of the home page. I hope these are informative and useful.

Thank you again for letting me know your views and concerns. Please contact me if you have any additional questions or comments about our work in Congress.

Sincerely,

Joseph I. Lieberman

UNITED STATES SENATOR

Lie-berman is a douchebag. That' s the standard form letter that his office sends out for anything having to do with firearms.

What did you expect?

You asked where he stands, and he told you. Far better than some who just don't answer the question.

Blue_Genes,

That election was interesting, wasn't it?
The left hate the War in Iraq so much that they crucified Liberman and his own party spat upon him.
The right hated LaMont so much that they all voted for Liberman. (I was not one of them. I stuck with the man I actually agreed with, Schlesenger).

Though JL was a "pro war" candidate, every one should have realized they were still voting for a leftist Democrat, and nothing has changed in that regard.

Lieberman is a far Lefty. His only "conservative" (quotes used as it's more of a common-sense stance than a true "conservative" stance) position is regarding the war. This is no secret--and shouldn't come as a surprise.

He is only useful to us for ONE purpose--if he will change parties. He will NOT do that, as he enjoys much more power now, as he has only to threaten to jump ship and they will fall at his feet.

I was amazing as to how many Republicans voter for Lieberman this past year. Schlesenger didn't stand a chance unfortunately.

Strip away his support of the war, and he's a Lefty.
