I am at register.com right now and I am a few steps away from securing a domain name. Does it really matter what company you use to host your domain name? Thanks for any advice |
register.com sucks. Seriously. Go with someone else. I just went with godaddy. Much better experience. |
Doesnt matter who you use. Look over a few places and see what works for you. I personally use powweb, and have been happy with them for several years. |

Register.com sucks! I have been using Host Gator for a few years now and I REALLY LIKE THEM! I run over 100-websites and more then a few are extensively PHP/MYSQL driven. The built in software is excellent and the support has been fantastic as well. It is also only $6.95/month for shared hosting using their Hatchling plan... I have a couple of their Swamp plans now but I really am very happy with them! |
Thanks! In your opinion do you think it matters what you need a web page for? This will be e-commerce related only. I read a few of there terms and conditions and it said no porn. I'm not going to be doing anything even closely related to pron stuff but it made me think there might be some sites better for ecommerce than others. Some for the porn guys, some for family pictures etc etc. Bottom line, I need to do more research before signing a long term contract. Thanks again |
If you will be running PHP and MYSQL to run your store you need a hosting company you can trust to keep the system running. I would not trust just any company with a business site, even a small one, as if your site goes down you will need it fixed NOW not in a day or two. There are lots of other great companies... I have also used Yahoo Hosting and DWHS.com and Host Rocket but I really have been hapiest with the Gator! |

I use moniker. They are recommended by many large customers with many domains and sites that have to stay up. I just started using them after I transferred off godaddy. I haven't heard of them turning off websites because someone didn't like your content. -Foxxz |

Also... Make SURE you register the domain with someone likeGODADDY! Registering with Godaddy will allow you to make changes to your domain at any time... if you have a problem with a hosting company you can get a new hosting company and be up and running again in a couple hours. If you register your domain with some companies, you need to e-mail or call them and beg them to make changes for you. I keep all of my domains registered with godaddy but I never use godaddy's hosting! |
DON'T do that. You may want to check this Google Search regarding the CEO of that "company" and his history. As far as the "ratings" go he has been known to create sock-puppet websites that harp on how great his companies are. You may be interested to know that some of those companies knowingly host websites belonging to designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations and they refuse to deny them service (as required by US Law). Try BlueHost.com instead. |

If you are new to ecommerce and you will be accepting credit cards, you might want to try a host like Homestead Storefront. They will do a lot of the work for you. Here is an example of one of the web stores they enable: LaRue Tactical |

I recommend Netfirms. That is the company I use for my site.Fireteam Zulu |
Fuck Now I'm scrambling for them to give me a refund. They say so days, it hasn't been 30 hrs. We'll see how this plays out. I refuse to stay with them after learning this. SHIT |
