If you want to save a lot of money try these guys:

www.bgmicro.com/

www.mpja.com/

I've done a lot of business with both and they have been great.

The previously mentioned Digikey and Mouser are great.

I also buy a lot from Jameco.  www.jameco.com

All of the above suggestions are excellent.

By a long shot, my favorite is Mouser - They have a broad selection of parts, their service is un-f'n believable, and they don't chanrge a "small order" fee for orders under a certain dollar amount (unlike Digi-Key and Newark).

After you become a customer, they'll send you a new catalog every few months - which in itself is enough of a reason to order from them.

www.allelectronics.com/

I used to get their catalog all the time back in eng. school, they always had loose items, fun knick-knacky electronics components, housings, standoffs, all variety of doo-dads to build pretty much anything.

Newark, Digikey, and the likes are a going to be a little more robust as far as component selections are concenred (my company frequently lets those two supply our hardware / component assembly kits). Buy in bulk and save, blahblahblah.

Mouser all the way

Last week I ordered some stuff at 8:00pm

It was on my door by 5:00pm the next day

I paid forf Ground shipping!

It is never more than 2 days for me to get any thing from them.

Awesome company, wish there were more like them.

My biggest problem is that I'll go looking for, say, a 7404 hex inverter (chip), and there will be 135 different kinds of 7404 and equivalents available.

thanks all-

I'm rolling my own battery packs for strobes (photography) and I'm trying to find misc connectors, housings, and so on.

I'll check out the suggested sites

I run a vibrator repair business on the side, anyone know a good source of industrial strength air freshener?
