Two things strike me:

1) It's scary how Mother Nature can just Bitch Slap us any time she wants.

2) Those Para/Rescue Jumpers are crazy.  Can you imagine jumping out of an aircraft into those seas.  No life line, nothing other than your vest.  Fucking crazy.

I'm the only one impressed by this movie?

Watching any movie with George Clooney in it is a no no.

What, like he makes any money off of it...

I watched it.  It's a damn good movie.

The book is 10 times better than the movie.  It goes into a lot of detail about how hurricanes form without being boring.  It also talks a lot about the PJs and gives them a lot of respect.

Definately a good movie.  While not a fan of Clooney for his real views, he is a hack of an actor and brings a lot of life to what might otherwise be drab roles.  I'll take exception to 3 Kings  which I just thought was terrible, but he is normally very good at what he does.

If I had to boycott everything anti-gun I'd enjoy nothing.

You must read the book.  Lots of great stuff about naval architecture and what causes ships to sink, or not.  Also a fascinating look at what it's like to drown....  The book is much more worthwhile than the movie. And you sidestep that clown Clooney.

also read 'the proving ground' about a freak typhoon hitting the sydney-hobart race fleet.

but still the best storm book out there is 'fastnet force 10' by john rousmanierre.

The movie was OK but everything from the time they left the dock the last time is pure speculation.

I felt bad for the curly haired guy. Gets an ugly girlfirend, gets laid, goes to sea, dies.
