| I live in a 100+ year old Victorian home that has suffered some recent vandalism by a crazed young squirrel! Apparently one of them got stuck in the attic when I was doing some repairs and a week later I found it had chewed its way through the crown molding on the very front of the house to get out. This is a wide ornamental crown so I can't just go and buy this stuff at the local Home Depot or Lowes as it has to be milled to order. So I figure the little bastard is going to cost me a hundred bucks plus time to fix it. Not only that but there's a huge nest in the attic so it had been living there for a while. I have a trap up there now but still no sign and its been 3 days. I live in the city so cannot simply go out and shoot them, though nothing would please me more. Any suggestions on how to keep them away?? |

+1 or a high velocity .177. Also what type of trap are you using? I use a Havahart small and only set one door open. Bait with peanut butter on the far end of the trap or else their butt may keep the door propped open. Either shoot, drown or release the rodent 3+ miles from your house. They are edible but I wouldn't eat city squirrels living off garbage. |
Then buy a new one. (Crosman 2100/2200 or a good Daisy, aughta do the job.) |
OH SNAP! head shot! what did you use? a few years back i did the ultimate pellet rifle kill EVAR! from my back deck i took out a chipmunk with a crossman, hit him in the neck, from about 25 yards away, it was like a sniper movie... blood sprayed onto the shed and he twitched for a few seconds. gotcha mutherfucker! |
I never had a reason to nail a chipmunk... What was he doing? - BG |
Gamo rifle .177 caliber. Seriously doubt I could ever pull that shot off again, pictures for sake of prosperity. |

I've thinned out quite a few over the years with my .22 cal pellet rifle. FWIW, I live in the city, too (Houston, TX) and have no problems taking out the tree rats w/ my pellet rifle. It ain't exactly "legal", but it's only "illegal" if you get caught! I did have one unfortunate incident, though.. Shot a squirrel and it didn't die right away. It ran up the tree to its nest. The next day, the squirrel was flat on his back.. feet up in the air... dead.. right in the middle of one of my neighbor's back yard. I hope it wasn't his kids that found it! Recently, we've noticed that a hawk has taken up residence in our area... We now see a LOT fewer squirrels than we used to!!

I had terrible trouble with flying squirrels in my house a few years ago until my Dad helped me fix the end of my breezeway roof where they had chewed through the wood. Flying squirrels are nocturnal, make a nasty mess and can chew wiring! It became War when one actually got into my bedroom one night! I freaked! I tried rat traps but I had a hard time resetting them. So I found the Haveaheart trap worked best with peanut butter as the bait. No I didn't release them - I drowned them! I like squirrels - as long as they stay outside my house! I know, this post is not what you would expect from a women but when you are single sometimes you have to figure out ways to deal with the problems on your own! It worked - I won the War! |
