If I want to get a CMP m1 Garand what must I do?  I satisfy the group requirments (my dad is retired marine and he's buying it) and I'm a member of the BSA.  That being said, what must I do?

Also, it dosen't say that firearms must be shipped to an FFL.  Can they ship them to my house?

Be a active member of a shooting club and attend one of their organized shooting events to satisfy the eligibility.  You should receive some short of certificate or proof that you can send in to buy the firearm.

Going by your statement - it doesn't sound as though you meet the age requirements...your father may purchase a rifle if he meets all of the stated requirements. Yes, it can be shipped to the purchaser's house.

Straw purchase.

You're not of age to own one legally...

By law, the CMP can sell surplus military firearms, ammunition, parts and other items only to members of CMP affiliated clubs who are also U.S. citizens, over 18 years of age and who are legally eligible to purchase a firearm.

Guns can be "gifted" from father to son legally. If outside the family I believe that's a straw purchase.

CMP guns get shipped to your house directly.  Get them now to support the cause, before the libs shut that down too. It is such a shame that Clinton destroyed M14's instead of putting them on CMP.....

So if you meet the eligibility requirements, you can have a garand shipped right to your house? That doesnt sound right.

Now I am wondering about your true motives with this thread.

First, you admit to a straw purchase and now you wonder about getting "around the FFL requirements".

I'm not trying to do anything illegal.  I'm just a kid trying to expand his collection.  Started collecting guns 6 months ago after nheriting an ol' .22.  Since I had jsut moved from CA, I wanted to get an assult weapon, so I got a ruger 10/22 (dad made me get a gun to practice with) then he allowed me to get my Century Yugo m70b1 (ak47).  When my taxes come back it'll be an SKS next followed by (hopefully) a CMP m1 Garand.  I see nothing wrong with having my dad purchase guns and legally gifting them to me.

You must get a time machine. Garands are SOLD OUT - Not accepting orders at this time Unless of course, you just want a barreled action.

BerlinVet, a rifle (or other long arm) can indeed be gifted to an underage person in most, if not all, states in these great United States of America. Therefore no straw purchase is occurring.

I don't know how I missed all those posts correcting him earlier.

Per ATF, the SOURCE  of the money HAS TO BE  the purchaser of the firearm (the one who fills out the 4473 and goes through the instant check).
It is TOTALLY LEGAL for your father to buy a gun (WITH HIS MONEY), and then give it to you.
It is NOT LEGAL (technically) for you to give him the money to buy a firearm for you. This would be considered a straw purchase.

That said...
I know it's done, and in this situation would not make a difference.

I used to work for CMP.  The CMP does not have to use an FFL because they are mandated under US Code to provide firearms for marksmanship training.  They do all of the things required by Brady in house and then ship directly to you.

So when he is using his credit card to buy a 500$ gun, I could give him 500$ for, say, driving me to 7/11 ?

As I edited in my original post, it is "technically" illegal, but I know it happens.
To me, no harm, no foul...but...

I will not suggest or agree to a way to violate federal law.

Do what you will. It makes no difference to me. Just be informed.

Read the Goddamned catalog when you get it.  Its all perfectly legal and has been going on for over 50 years.  You are going to send the the equivalent of a 4473 to them.  They record everything just like an FFL does so you aren't getting over on the feds.  Its just like buying one from the fun shop.

I guess the whole lying on a federal form issue isn't registering with you....

You might also think twice before posting stuff like this on A PUBLIC WEBSITE that is most likely monitored.  You are only inviting scrutiny posting all of this here.

Keep it legal and above board.  Fucking up in this area makes the rest of us look bad.

I've asked local gun stores, and they say its Ok.  Hell, I've even use my debit card once.

Besides, I can legally say i've done pretty much anything but murder, and the Feds can't do anything about it.  1st ammednment.  but this is all besides the point!!!!

If CMP has no more garands, then it looks like they only sell .22's

If local gunstores have told you that it is okay for you to give your dad money to buy you a gun, they don't know what they are talking about.

You are not legally eligible to buy a gun, period.  If you give your dad, or anyone else, money to buy you a gun, it's a straw purchase, period, and for you to admit that you have done it on a public forum is not very smart.

Again, I question your motives for this thread.

actually they'd be wrong on that. read the federal law and the 4473. you paying for the rifle in anothers name IS a straw purchase and IS a felony. they are telling you it's ok becuase they want the sale and likely figure it's a gifted rifle anyway. By the letter of the law it IS a problem.

as for the "i can say anything i want...

you have the right to say anything you want within the confines of our COC. the 1st amed ONLY applies to your speach limitations by the government. There is a VERY big difference in government limitations and private limitations. in either case you are not free from the repercussions of such posts.

the .gov <BATFE/FBI> does monitor this site. keep that in mind while posting please.
