Well with my damaged leg driving a stick shift has become physically painful after a half hr driving. Having grown up with, and have only driven stick. I do not wish to go to an automatic. Are there other options..

What should I do.. suck it up and drive the stick shift that I love (I <3 my land rover). Or should I puss out and try and learn to drive an out of control automatic?

So what says the sages of arfcom?

Get hand controls :) although I don't know if they make hand controls for a manual tranny.  Whats wrong with driving an auto? How is it "out of control"

suck it up.

pull over every 30 minutes and rub one out.  it should help take your mind off the pain.

all above is in jest.  I would switch to automatic if stick was causing me pain.

The practical thing to do would be to drive the auto.

Ferarris and Lambos have F1 style paddle shifters and electronics clutches.

I'm just sayin'.

Just go with the auto. Nobody is going to revoke your man card for it.

You know... If I could get the paddle shifters for my 95 discovery I do it in a heart beat!

And like my dad said.. only girls drive autos..

You control the car with the gas pedal, brake pedal, and the steering wheel, just like with a manual.

The car will automatically shift to the best gear for the situation.  Need to downshift to get back into the powerband?  Just push down on the gas.  It'll drop down and go.  I can't think of a single instance in recent memory where I thought to myself, "Damn, I wish this automatic would use a different gear."  There is nothing wrong with driving a modern automatic.  My Camry is so smooth, I can't even feel it shift most of the time.
