One of you out there needs to do this if you can. Create a website where you can build any AR virtually. Make it where you can add any rail system and optics available along with different stocks, vertical grips; you know the whole nine yards. Also have the MSRP of all products and have the website total up the estimated cost. It would be a whole hell of a lot of fun, You know they have those websites where you can build the car of your dreams, why not the AR of your dreams? I know one of you out there knows how to do this I'll bet ARFCOM will sell you an icon! |
virtual rifle builder....and beer....and steak....and pie....but thats about it....oh yeah and real guns
|
Oh come on! if 3,000 assholes can argue about "Colt" and "Bushmaster" back and forth without kool-aid drinking remorse on ARFCOM. Then we can can have a Website to fiddle f@#k around on while the old lady is cooking dinner or running the vacume and of course those uneventful days at work. It can be done, IT must be done! It's not about the "Black Rifle Disease" it's the "Black Rifle "DREAMS" |
Thats an understatement. I was going to do one like this for a vendor. But the relationship went south with him. He never could deliver a parts list much less photographs after 6 months. Now way I would spend a month creating it just for the hell of it. A tone of work to get the parts either built in 3D or all parts photographed on a grid to be pulled into a Flash interactive program. Lot of work creating it and a lot of work to program it. It is a cool idea though. Just too much involved to do it right. |

Looking at an AR via computer and firing one real world are two different things. Why not buy what you want...if you dont like it or it doesnt work for you, it can be sold or traded via the EE. Some of the prices I see make me aware this is what is taking place, at 0 loss no less. |
Microsoft offers a Visio "Viewer" for free: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3fb3bd5c-fed1-46cf-bd53-da23635ab2df&displaylang=en |
are you saying Visio makes dynamic web content? eta: wow, i didn't know they had a viewer. for some reason i thought they didn't make a viewier for visio or publisher, but i guess it's just publisher.
|
A viewer will only view completed builds. You cant construct them with the viewer. |
Some of us don't have the financial resourses to build whatever we want. You ever drive through the car lot just to look? You ever go to the Gun Shop just to look around? Well with this you could satisfy some of that simple curiosity without listening to the sales hype. http://outofthemist.mclo.net/images/used_car_salesman.jpg CAN YOU DIG IT? |

There's a site for VW people that lets you build whatever configuration you want, choosing your body style, color, wheels, ride height, rake, etc. www.volkswarenhaus.de/bugselecta.htm Something similar with AR parts would be cool. |
I've considered doing an application like this in Borland builder with the Weights of the parts included (so you'd get cost and weight data). If you were really inclined it would be nice to have a center of mass as well But the time and effort would be enormous. We'd need to find one of us without a life who was looking for everlasting glory, and would be willing to do periodic updates as new gear comes on the market. |

We will need pics, LOTS AND LOTS OF PICS!!!! complete lower, a normal upper, 20", 16", 11.5" and so on. flat top, with carry handle and attchecd handle. Sites, optics, rails, grips, stocks...20rhnd/30rnd mags, c-mags, forgrips, bipods.. yeah, this would be one helluva undertaking |
well are you man enough to be the new arfcom Cesar...as i will contribute what I have in photos... |
Contributed photos would be junky. The pics would need to be taken under similar lightting, distance, backdrop, etc... in order to really make a go of this. |
Agreed...this would be an awesome sales tool for a vendor. There are SOOOOO many mix and match parts for the AR system that it would be incredibly cool to see what it would look like before buying. Put it together, spin it 360 degrees, try out different configs, price out a list of components and click.......all the parts ordered! WBK |
![]() There is no undertaking too GREAT! |
well so your right im just getting in the spirit of the moment
|
www.sniperworld.com/1911/ |
Thats a great start. Just imagine all the options for the AR15. Just click and it changes the look. WBK |
thank you for that link |
+1. that's pretty cool. |
|
This idea is awesome! If this was created it would be almost as addicting as AR15.com! A distant second but perhaps more feasible project might be a searchable database of pictures of different configurations of ar's with different accessories. You could be able to specify what criteria you wanted, and if someone had submitted a pic of a similar ar you could see what it would look like. I know this sucks as compared to the OP's great idea, but it might be easier to put together. |
good point, it'd have to have the ability to change lower graphics too... ....and a price list for the MSRP of the component like the free Ikea program you can get to plan your kitchet
|
