Ok, so last night my laptop started making a mechanical "voom voom voom" noise. It had frozen up and when I restarted it, all I got was:

Intel Boot Agent Version 4.1.08

PXE-E61 Media Test Failure

PXE-M0F Exiting Intel Boot Agent

Operating System Not Found

It's that last part that really bothers me. I've looked up the eror messages online, and can't find any real solutions. Help! I can't have lost all 60G+ of data! Noooooooooooooooooooo!

The "mechanical 'voom voom voom'" noise part doesn't sound good at all, I'm thinking it might be a hard drive failure.

Try this though before you go swapping out the HD.  Disconnect both your battery AND your hard drive and check the connections.  If they're loose or you see dust fix that and throw it back together and see what happens.  Sometimes laptops get banged around and things get knocked loose, hopefully it's a simple problem like that!

If you get it to boot up and your drive is making funny mechanical noises, shut it down and get a new drive for your laptop right away.  Just because you can't boot from it doesn't necessarily mean that the data can't be recovered.

Good Luck!

Drive problems. Try the above.

If that doesn't work get a USB drive enclosure for a 2.5 drive, put your hard drive in it. . Hook it up to another computer to see if you can save anything.
Then
Sometimes you can revive a bad drive if you freeze the drive in the enclosure inside a ziplock bag with just the cable sticking out.

Do you have access to a desktop PC? If so get an IDE adapter to connect the little laptop drive to the PC's IDE port. Then try starting the PC and see if the drive is recognized. If not, power down the PC and flip the disk upside down and power up the PC again. If that doesn't work power down the PC and turn the disk on its side and restart the PC. Don't try to flip the disk while still spinning.

I've had at least a couple failed hard disks that would function either turned upside down or turned onto its side, long enough to copy the contents off.
