Do you guys think immigration (we're talking LEGAL immigration, by the way) laws should be more restrictive, less restrictive, or perfect the way they are now?

I'm not opposed to a "guest worker" program in the general sense.

I do, however, believe that those currently here illegally should be deported, and that they and their children should be excluded from the "anchor baby" interpretation as used currently.

If they want to come back? Fill out an application and wait in line. Such a process would allow better record keeping and provide a method to force compliance with little things like having a valid DL and auto insurance.

One of the reasons why we allow ourselves to be inundated with illegals (and why France is allowing itself to be overrun by Muslims) is that immigration is the only way to get tax-paying workers onto the rolls.  Birth rates are down (in Europe, they're way  below replacement levels), the population is aging, and there are huge transfer payments for massive Socialist entitlement programs that must be paid to the voting retired.

Seal the borders.  First and foremost.  Then, we can increase the rate of "legal" immigration to fill the necessary job roles.  Put an end to entitlements for criminals.  Don't give the illegals any benefits at all including hospitalization, in state tuition etc...

We must gain control of our own borders or we will be or run.

I know. I counter that illogical liberal "feelings" epithet with two arguments:

1) My policy would not be limited to, and in fact specifically makes no mention of, the illegal's country of origin. Kick out the illegal europeans and asians too.

2) I had an up-close-and-personal experience with an DUI illegal who was using falsified offical documents that resulted in the loss of my pickup truck and my eventual transport to the hospital. He still has a FTA warrant on 11 charges related to the incident, and my insurance company was never reimbursed for the loss. I've got my war story about an experience with a lawbreaking illegal... have you?

Kinda shuts 'em up real fast.

I would wish for a free border, so much as:

1). All social programs are shut down or limited to citizens (NOT RESIDENTS) only.
2). When you enter the U.S., you get a number, like an SS number, you would use to pay income taxes like everyone else, but maybe rather through the employer than filing. They would also probably spend that money they earned, thus helping businesses and the government with sales tax revenue.
3). Commit no crimes; not one! Or you go Bye-Bye!
4). Can't vote, can't claim SS/medicare/aid, etc.
5). MAYBE allow their kids to go to our schools, assuming their parents are 100% background clean folks and pay their taxes making things even.

The best way to solve the poverty of our neighbors is to allow them the same shot as everyone else on the economic front. I know Latinos who kick American's butt because they want to succede and make something out of themselves. No one should punish them or shun them for that. It's pointless to try to curve people wanting to succede (like our shitty progressive tax laws).
