Hello,

I do not have enough money for a complete rifle.  SO, I need to know what I SHOULD buy now that might be banned soon.  I want to eventually own a complete rifle, but since I just spent money on a M1A, I am wanting to buy legal/might be illegal parts now, so that I can easily purchase the easy to find legal parts later.

I want enough parts to be able to buy easy to find parts IF a ban takes place.

Please Advise...

Mags would be good, but parts won't do you any good because only complete rifles will be grandfathered in.

Same boat I'm in...So I had a talk with my mom at dinner about Guns, Get this, it gets better. first I'll tell this and then the latter.

So, my mom is walking the dog, and she jumps out in front of a car (on the leash) and the car stops, it's a neighbor who drives a Subaru Forrester as well (I drive one) they get to talking he's in technology (like me except, I'm in college and actually going to tell my Supervisor I'm switching departments to a tech dept, today in...an hour or so.) he's out of Boston (Not like me) but loves guns (Mirror image?), ends up he has an AR15, etc, my mom was scant on the details, and I laughed.

He asked had I ever shot a real gun, she mentioned I had loved weapons all of my life since child hood, gone from nerf to paintball to airsoft, to now getting Guns. (Before any of you say anything I haven't had an airsoft gun for over 3 years...actually the guy I sold it too still owes me money, but he shipped out for basic today at Noon. So it'll be August before I seem him again.)

Long story short, this conquered two barriers for me, one it was good that my mom saw a regular functioning well to do individual who had interests in firearms, not just thinking I'm a nut. It's not weird it's your rights as a citizen.

Anyway, so I went to dinner with her and explained her the gun bill that's in committee, I explain to her I had been considering a shotgun but rethought it, because A) (Edit: I just realized I fowled that up, it's a 20'' barrel, not a NFA Registered SBS.)it's a Short Barreled shotgun, with a 8 round tube and a heat shielded B) I just guess I figured I had more important things to buy, plus I can't really use it recreationally except for just screwing around at the range, while a I could hunt with a Semi 12 GA. So I tell her straight up "Mom, these might become permenantly illegal in the following weeks, I want to buy one so in case I can never buy them again, I can at least have something to pass onto my children, etc." EDIT (#2): I forgot to say, I told her about the '86 Ban on MG's and how a Colt M4 probably ball parks 1500-1800 on cost to make and sell, but since they're limited to only ones built before the ban, right now they could easily go with a FA Receiver for 10,000+

She understood, only problem is, I've got enough money, but my car payment clears in...a week from today, I've got enough to get the gun, and the car payment, but after that I'm pretty much wiped out, especially after paying back my dad for the laptop he lent me money to buy. Maybe I'm a hoarder or maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'm sitting here thinking today, I'm transitioning jobs and may or may not get this job, it's a 99% for sure thing and that's from the Supervisor's mouth, his Old manager liked me, his new manager liked me, my current manager and supervisor like me, but that's a double edged sword. I've bailed their asses out for the past 6 weeks by moving back to my old department to cover for the fact everyone was either fired or quit after christmas.

Either way, I'll be getting a raise but hours might be tight for awhile, since I'm the rookie and at the bottom of the totem pole, if I don't make it, they're probably going to cut my hours because I'm trying to get out. I want to get this shotgun, I got my mom's approval, but part of me doesn't like being on hold under the gun until the next pay check I at least want a few in advance, or at least to have enough in case something does happen, like for example I have to get something like my brakes replaced with my car again, I'm not up the creek.

I'm not in dire straight financially, I can clear my car payment easily, but with an unsure future, and only about two and a half car payments in the bank, how smart is it to go buy something I don't need but potentially could want in the future now?

So anyway, long story short, How certain is the ban?

P.S. I'm going to write my letter today.

If they get the ban they want it won't make any difference what you own now.  The key is to stop it from happening!

I just ordered 10 FAL magazines, but don't own one.  I didn't figure they would be $5 for much longer.

Nothing is going to be banned.  Don't start buying shit you can't afford because of everyone's paranoia.

If you want an AR, buy one, but don't buy something you normally wouldn't just because of all the hype.

I didn't buy because of politics, I just wanted to lock in some mags pre-emptively.
I don't share your optimism, though.

at least 10 (better 20) magazines for every semi-auto you own.
AR15 lowers (that's the gun, the uppers are just machine parts)

Just don't do what someone I know did just prior to the '94 Ban; bought well over a dozen firearms on credit.

Spent the next eight years digging myself himself out of that mess...

WOW, only 1 person actually answered my post. Another thought it was cute to +1 and +2 posts all about the 'NRA Membership' but didnt think that we might already BE a member, or perchance that our money has gone to better 2nd Amendments Advocates like GOA for instance.  Anyways!! I am wasting MY time again.

Please tell me what parts (etc. uppers, lowers, barrels ETC.) that I need to buy NOW, (FYI) JUST IN CASE of another ban.  What parts for AR15s are/were hard to get during the last gun ban?  How can I be sure to buy the parts NOW so I can completely assemble one in the future.  (not worrying about the grandfather part)

There are no "better" 2A groups than the NRA.  The NRA is far from perfect, but they are the 800 lb. gorilla.  If the NRA were to disappear tomorrow, and the day after a whole slew of gun bills went through Congress, all of your "better" 2A groups, even working together, couldn't accomplish a fraction of what the NRA does.

Please tell me what parts (etc. uppers, lowers, barrels ETC.) that I need to buy NOW,

How can you not know this?

Receivers.  Those are the "firearms", according to Federal law.  If there is another ban, we'll (probably) still be able to get parts galore.  Get receivers and magazines.

HUGE +1.  this should be the first thing ANY of us buy. And sign up loved ones and others. They are our best defense.

+2 They're your best lobbying bet.

Easy Pay life membership is only $25/quarter.

Built one complete rifle and replace the parts as you register them. Or even borrow the parts.
