I didn't realize that Carter has a Seawolf-class sub named after him... ![]() From Wikipedia: -- USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), the third and last Seawolf-class submarine, is the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for former President Jimmy Carter, who served in the US Navy as an officer in the Submarine Service as a nuclear engineer. Jimmy Carter is one of the few ships of the United States Navy to have been named for a person who was alive at the time of the ship's naming. -- Further down, I was struck by the appropriateness of this: -- On 24 January 2004, Commander David Bartholomew, Jr., commanding officer of PCU (Pre-Commissioned Unit) Jimmy Carter was relieved of command because of a "loss of confidence" in his ability... -- |
I read somewhere that the navy would rather have a submarine named after Jimmy Carter than an aircraft carrier. That is why they named that submarine after the peanut farmer, so they wouldnt be forced to have an aircraft carrier named after him. |

Actually it's perfect. President Carter gets a Naval ship named after him, a submarine, which is cool since he did shirk his responsibility to the Navy and Admiral Rickover, and it's a nuclear powered warship, everything Carter can't stand. I hope that it is the first to fire missiles into Iran.

Not necessarily Iran but into an Al Qaeda training camp & take out Bin Laden. Now that would be one nice bit of consolation. |
The PPCLI has a long and proud history in battle. |
| If the killer bunny can bump fire under water, the sub is in big trouble. |
If that held true then West Virginia wouldn't have one named highway in the state. Aren't they all named for Byrd? |
