Why do some websites not like thier pictures to be hotlinked on other sites...? Cheers Taffy |

But why put up pictures/sites and then moan when loads of people access it?. How does it cost them money?... I'm confused. If I made a website and had it hosted then I'd want as many people as possible to view it surely. How would it cost me extra if more people viewed it? Cheers Taffy |
Yeah. Essentially, they pay for a certain amount of data transfer per month. Every time someone views an image hosted on their server is uses some of that bandwidth they paid for. When you post that image on, say, a forum without re-hosting it somewhere else, every time someone's browser loads that image it uses the transfer of the person you hotlinked it from. When people pay for bandwidth and then someone else does something like that that drains their bandwidth, they usually aren't too happy about it. |
Like I said in the post just after yours, the pay for bandwidth, and every time someone's browser loads the image it uses up some of that bandwidth. If you hotlink their picture and post it somewhere else, it uses up bandwidth, and they don't get the benefit of those people seeing their site, so they make no money from adds and the like, and it costs them. |
