The local news was doing a story about some armed robberies of gas stations etc around town and they had a snipit from the owner/manager of the gas station one some new policy (removing all hoods/hats when entering) and he said "this is not about a simple robbery anymore, its a matter of life and death."

I'm sorry, but isn't every robbery where a guy points a weapon at you a matter of life and death?

Most reporters are functioning idiots.  There is any college degree easier to get than a journalism degree.  On top of that, you don't even need one of those to be a reporter.  

Think of reporters as people too dumb to be ATF agents.
