I have recently started dating again after my divorce 2.5 yrs ago.

I joined 2 services & one I really like, but the other I hate.

I like eHarmony, but hate match.com

I have dated 3 women, & talked via thgeph to a dozen otr more. Some of them turn out to be real crazies!

I have found one gal & she is looking pretty good. I'm really falling for her.

The thought popped into my mind to ask the com how many of you have dated from the net, & what your worst/best experiance was. Also what is your #1 favorite dating site?

I have never dated on the web, but if I did here's how I would have done it....

1) www.hotornot.com
2) www.match.com
3) www.plentyoffish.com
4) www.adultfriendfinder.com
5) www.myspace.com
6) www.onlinebootycall.com

How long did you look on the net before you found her ?

What I found is the more time you spend on the phone with e-mail the better you can get to know them, before spending /wasting money on a date with someone you won't like in person.

Each date I had that was rushed was no good.

I also like to ask the question of prospects as to what their views on gun control are, & what political party best supports their ideals & beliefs. It really help weed them out to have those thing known asap!

Here is an actual example I just retrieved from my account at eharmony.

What are you're political views, & how do you feel about gun control?:

I would rather not answeer this question and reserve the right to answer this privately. I also could not/would not want to be in a marriage where guns are prevelant and used. The government continues to debate both sides however I would not want a gun in my home. This is just my preference. I have curious children that are minors & while this has been a great debate for years and years...I would not feel comfortable owning one or anything to do with this. In all that has been lost through crime, financially alone, I wonder how many dolllars could have been spent in education alone, across our nation learning about gun control?

The poll did not have a suitable choice for me:

"I have dated online and married someone I met online" would have been my pick.

I met my wife after about a dozen dates with (mostly crazy) women in 6 months of membership of match.com, we emailed for a month, talked on the phone for a month, then I flew from DC to NY to meet her for the weekend, we started spending every weekend together, moved in together 8 months later, got engaged shortly after that, married a year later, and have been happily married for 4 1/2 years.

I'm already looking for the cheapest flight to Amarillo to visit my sweet heart, & meet her grown/married daughters. Did I mention this gal is all of 4' 10"? She is really something!

I don't recommend dating someone you meet through an MMORPG.  That did not go well.    Imagine the female version of the dude with no life from that Southpark episode.

My cousin did the Internet dating thing.  He had a few dates that didn't go anywhere as far as I know, but he eventually met someone he wound up marrying.  She's a decent person overall, but personally, I think she has a few issues.  They seem happy, though, so good for them.

I found my wife online, so I'm not going to continue to use the Net for dates.
I never used a pay site like Match.com, it was just caileens I 'ran in to' on chat boards and whatnot.

I met my wife on Yahoo chat when I was just trying to find girls to you know hang out with.  Why did she have to be so sweet.  Now 5 years after we met she is being a mean bit** to me one week out of the month.

Met my wife on Match but I have to admit that there are a lot of crazy women on there too.  To give an example you do not want to hear on your first date that she openly admits to being a heroin addict.  The longer you can talk via email before actually meeting the better as it helps to weed out the crazy ones.

Anyway, I tried eHarmony and had no luck with it.  It might work for some folks, seemed like too much money for too little result to me.

I had success online.
Met my present GF, she's
-2 years younger than me,
-an inch taller,
-never married with no kids,
-very conservative,
-a practicing (not pretending) Christian,
-already owns her own gun,
-has a great family,
-she's very smart and courteous
-and to top things off she has a great career as a physician.

Could you write a better description for a GF?  (OK, well maybe, she could own a liquor store, a chain of Japanese Restaurants, and have her own FFL license, but that would just be greedy)

Beware the ones with only one distorted picture. I met this one girl and she looked absolutely NOTHING like her picture, her hair wasnt even the same color! And she thought just because someone went to college it made them better than someone who didnt.

I wouldnt even consider driving out of my area to meet someone or paying for a match website.

If you live in or around a city you can usually find a free singles/local meet people website or use myspace.

Holy crap sandwich's! I was getting along famously with this really hot babe from Fla. She was a bit nuttsy, raised kittys for a living, & told me about her aa meetings. I figure anyone about my age has some junk in their past, & shrugged it off as best I could.

Then after about 1.5 wks she was asking when she could move in m with my son & I & if she could bring a 51 yr old slow minded lady she sponsers for AA with her, & we could set her up with an apt, & she could run the kitten mill out of the other 1/2 of my duplex, while she works a full time job!

Click, my ph battery went dead. I sent her an e-mail saingy, it was nice chating, but .....

I have met a cpl crazzies, & yes you can ask a question or two I figure it out pretty quick once you learn what to ask, & how to interpret it!

I LOVE IT!!!

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.) Read Swingset's Guide to Dating.
2.) Read Kangaroo's Guide To Meeting Myspace Chicks.
3.) Setup Good Myspace Page & Meet Some Women!

I followed Roo's advice, and I'm currently dating the BEST GIRLFRIEND I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!  HANDS DOWN!

You just gotta browse profiles of women in your area to find one that you feel is a suitable match and has many things in common.  Then Send her a message to see if she writes back!  Then Email/Chat online for a few weeks and meet somewhere in person if things are going well.  You never know, and what have you got to lose?  Less time sitting alone by your computer surfing Arfcom???  Go for it!

Right now I'm saving up $$ for a ring for my girlfriend, and she's told me she's soon buying me a new 1911A1 this spring!!!

Give it a shot!

She's VERY pretty...
She's 3 Years Younger than me...
Owns her own rifle...
Has a start in a decent career...
Owns her own house...
Has a TON of things in common with me...
Has a PERSONALITY TO DIE FOR!
Loves ME FOR ME, not some delusional idea of who she WANTS me to be...

Internet dating is great fun.  Just don't have to high of expectations for something serious.  I can say that I had many great encounters, and some close calls for serious relationships.

I am no engaged to a wonderful girl that I did not meet on the internet though.  If I wasn't with her, I'd be right back on full speed ahead.

My current girlfriend of three years was scored via algore's creation.

There is no better way to weed them out than the internet.  E-mails, messenger programs, (this will tell you if they have a brain) phone calls (this will tell you if you can stand their voice, and have a sense of humor), meet (this will make or break it).

One of the best times I ever had with somebody was when a Taiwanese chick flew here to spend two weeks.  It was like a cultural/historical/linguistics/fuck fest all at the same time.

I used to get hung up on the fate factor not seemingly coinciding with a formulated click and choose session.  But, hey...destiny has a lot of different vehicles.

I went on a date with a chick I met online... Everything seemed normal she was hot went to dinner and all that... Went back to her apartment to find that there was trash 2 feet deep all over inside along with that fact that she had a facination with "furry
" animals. I could not leave fast enough.

Ever sense then I have been a bit lerry.

Also seems that most online conversations go fine for about two weeks then they simply disappear.

Haven't tried it yet, but I plan on it.  Yeah, I've heard a lot of fruit loopy stories, but there's also success stories out there as well.  As my dad used to say, "You'll never know if you don't try."

My fear is chicks for dicks.  I'm not into the whole promiscuity thing anymore, and I'd like to meet someone sincere and honest who doesn't want sex the first date.  I'm just too old for that crap.  I actually PMd 'Roo and asked him to send me some leads, but he never did and then just made fun of me in another thread, so I guess I'll be reading the tutorials and taking my chances *shrug*

I'm not looking forward to the whole dating thing again

I know what you mean. I'm 45 now, & dating is a whole new ball game.

I have a 9 yr old son I'm raising, & I must set a good example for his sake, & not die of aids or some other form of VD.

I started in late October, because I just don't go anywhere, & I don't meet any eligible women in my daily life. I have dated 3 women, & the last has really got my full attention!

If you're sane and on the internet, I gotta believe other people are just like you.  Weed out the nuts and find a companion.
