I have PCPillin anti virus software on my PC. It often has a pop-up saying "there are unknown computers on my network". It gives me an option to trust or not trust. I typically click "do not trust", but it doesnt seem to block anything. Any help?

I always thought it blocked them access to connecting to your computer through a network such as a network drive.

Is your network secure?

BTW, I think that the 2007 version is MUCH better than the 2006 version.

I do have a wireless network. It is secured with PCPillin. It notifies me when there are unknown devices on my network. It offers me the option to trust or not to trust. I select do not trust, but it doesnt appear to do anything. 30 minutes later it shows the same IP address on my network again.

Got a little icon in your systray for the wireless connection?  Does it show any others?

I'm going to guess it's either picking up the ip address of your router or access point. I run PC-cillin 2007 and it will give me three unknown devices also when I first installed it. It is my router, wireless access point and the other computer. I could be wrong and I'm sure one of the experts will be along shortly to tell me so.

If you really want the 411 call their customer support and talk to a tech. I have found them fairly helpful.

If you have a wireless network, is your wireless connection
open or encrypted with WEP, etc?  I used to share my
wireless router with six other guys, and one day we noticed
the connection slowed way down.   We had an open wireless
connection, and someone had snuck into our wireless
connection and began downloading from a Spanish porn site
and spent hours every day on that place.

You might want to enable WEP and change your router password.
If you use the default password ANYONE can break into your router
and mess stuff up big time.

None of us were online, so I used the administrative log and
a WHOIS lookup to see what sites they were visiting.  Then
we locked the MAC address out of the network.  We tried to keep
the network open because alot of folks from our job would visit with
their laptops.  About a week later, I was checking MAC addresses
on the router and a new one appeared on a day no one else visited.
It was the same person, looking at porn sites.  So we blocked
every site visited, as well as a popular email site.  Low and behold
a week later a new wireless connection appeared nearby...and the
SSID was in Espanol.
Go figure.

At one time it showed two connections available, now it shows only one. However it says  it is unsecured???? I am lost.

I found their CS to be very teious the one time I called. Not very pleased with PCP in general. However, I admit to not being well versed in the software, I am sure that makes a difference.

I am sure that is great advice, but you may as well have written in Portuguese. Is there a simple way to check these settings?

Hmmm. I'd read the entire manual for your router and secure it pronto.  The advice above from others should give you a head start.

Some firewalls can handle / log traffic in both directions, or so I'm told -- also that you should only run ONE firewall.
