Weds I parked my Farmall Model M after I delivered a round bale to my cows. It was in fourth gear. Thursday, I got on and put the gear in neutral then start. The tractor jerks forward while the starter motor turns. So, I push in the clutch and start the engine. Everything is fine. I shift to first gear and let the clutch go. Tractor is not moving. So I put the gear back in neutral and let the clutch go. The tractor starts to move but it's in fifth gear. Fifth gear on Farmall is for pavement road going like 25 mph. Anyone know what would be the issue? Before I talked to a mechanic I would like to get arfcom opinions so I would know if the mechanic is honest or not. The last one who worked on it was a crook. Thanks. Updated: got the tractor fixed. Took me less than 5 minutes to get this done. Thanks Mopar and other who contributed this thread. |

It's actually not that hard to fix, I've got the same transmission on one of my antique fire trucks- chock the wheels of the tractor, the remove the shifter top plate on the transmission. when you take the shifter plate off, you'll see 3 rails with a spot on them for the shifter base to fit into. slide the rails all to center, then put the shifter back on, making sure that you've got it in the center of all the tabs you just moved, and viola, you're all set. |
Thanks for the reply. I will take a look once I get home. |
