My DVR service has been converted to a lease after 2 failed DVRs and I'm now being charged an additional $4.99 for the lease WTF! I've argued and set on hold and argued some more, I searched the DTV site for a cutomer service number or email the 800 line has got me nowhere. Anyone have this problem? any other options?

I hate my non-Tivo DVR and I call and bitch about it once a month and they remove the fee and every 3 months they give me Showtime and Starz for free.

I bought the DVR when service started and was NOT leasing it, how is it now a lease?

Simiar thing happened to me, it seems they started calling an extra receiver a leased receiver.  I'm paying the same, just a different fee name.  I haven't had any failed DVR's though.

I bought my first DirecTV/Tivo unit (Sony) like 5 years ago off the shelf from Fry's.  Only charged the $4.95 per month Tivo fee.

After it died 2 years ago I replaced it with another store bought unit (RCA) and continue to pay only the Tivo subscription fee.

Tag for more info.  I simply REFUSE to lease equipment so this might get interesting.

I have Tivo with DirecTV and wasn't aware untill now that they have non-Tivo DVR's.  Anyway, I've had DirecTV for about 4 years and have been very happy with them.  Anytime I've had a problem it's always been corrected and they will usually credit my bill a few bucks or throw in something for free.

Keep trying, you'll get it fixed.

No, you really aren't.  You USED to pay $4.99 per month as a programming "mirroring fee" for each additional receiver beyond the first one.  With a leased receiver, you no longer pay the $4.99 "mirroring fee", but you now pay a $4.99 "lease fee" for the additional receiver.  In other words, nothing has really changed, except that DTV will now replace your leased receiver if it dies, whereas before, you owned it, so once the 90 day warranty expired, if you didn't pay for the Protection Plan, you had to buy a new one out-of-pocket.
