I don't understand why a thread gets locked, or people punished for words. We belong to a gun board and rant and rave any time the 2nd amendment is even looked at in a negative tone. What about the first amendment, why not defend it?

I wonder if I will be suspended for this?

And take note of how shitty it is, when it isn't moderated. I point to rec.radio.cb as exhibit A.

GoatBoy hasn't given us a people punisher button yet.  He has promised it in a future site upgrade though.

You might take a remedial course on the Bill of Rights if you think the First Amendment applies on a privately-owned forum board.

We have a Conduct Code and when it is violated the thread or the poster is locked--or dealt with in any of various other manners.  Some things just "are"--and resistance is futile.  Your ass will be laminated, blah, blah.

Than you definitely aren't going to understand why this thread gets locked.

Threads get locked because:

1. Pissing matches. We get off the topic and on to who's internet dick is bigger. This is a waste of bandwidth and gives a bad impression of arfcom.

2. The topic is disgustingly stupid, racist, or worthless banter.

USENET? That's the newsgroups right?

And on the threads here & the CoC . . .  do the mods have to actually read every post?

You might get "Locked" when the Mods find out that you are really Bruce B.

No--that would be impossible.  We have the "Report" button on every post.  Members here have a sense of "ownership" and want "their" site kept clean and within certain broad limits, so they help us to monitor things and keep things tidy.

no mods can't read every post. we usually get tipped off by our evil minions or the report button. a few of us that are on the site hours a day stumble into a bunch as well. There are however LOTS of threads that are never seen by staff/mods.

Ya know . .  I shoulda stayed in the FBI school. I never noticed that button. Pretty cool, a SNITCH SWITCH! I'll be damned! We have our own 911 line!

Do you get false alarms and stuff like that a lot? Like lots of overly helpful tattle tales who want to show you guys what good guys they are by constantly report stupid stuff and bugging y'all to death?

Now that's cool!

Can you frame guys up too?

How about sting operations? Do y'all do that too?

And I know y'all got guns, but is there an ARFCOM badge and uniform you get too?

Seriously. how and why do y'all become mods? Seems like more work than my lazy ass would want to do.

I don't know about threads locked, but I know that accounts are locked for personal insults like yours.

Better explain what you mean, before someone takes it the wrong way.

This site is run for profit, you make money off of its members by advertisement , anyone can find it online  register  and post.
What is so private about that ? What happens is  those in charge control what is allowed and what is not allowed to be posted - nothing about the freedom of  speach applies.
YOU CONTROL WHAT IS ALLOWED TO BE SAID AND EXPRESSED, you in fact control the tone of the board and what thoughts can be expressed. I will submit that if that is good or bad is up to those that read the posted stuff here.

Huh?

It is good or bad, not because of those who read, but rather because of those who post.

That is why we keep it clean.Free of insults and litigious posters.

Now that's funny . . . a blank nameless, no picture, no avatared memorial wall in memeory of the anonymous hero snitches no one remembers but no one could have functioned without.

Almost like that quote from Stalin about knocking off a million of his countrymen: "In 20 years who will remeber one of their names."

Well what I was getting at is this; I know the law on speech and private business and so on. What I was questioning is how we stand up for one thing because it is our passion and yield to another. If you can tear one down you can be sure the other will fall as well.

Now I don't think we should take a thread to the point of personal insults and mud slinging, but we should be adult enough to not need a snitch button.

And what is the Bruce B sh*t about

Behind the scenes - it takes money to run the mechanics of ARFCOM.  That money comes from good sponsors (note their logos above) and paid members.  When the thread exchanges dissolve to mudslinging, name-calling, condemnation of people based upon their sex, race, religion etc (insert other bad bahaviors here) then the interests of those sponsors and greater membership are no longer served.

If you are so passionate for speech on ARFCOM - consider springing for a membership.
