I got this MP3 player for Christmas and I'm having some trouble getting it set up. When I put songs on and play them, it will show the filename in the song portion of it (where it says "Take Me Back"), however the other two lines ("Maggie's Choice" and "Tale for Free") both say "unknown". I cannot find a way to get the album and artist information over to the player, therefore I cannot organize anything once it is on the player. I have all my music organized on my hard drive by artist, album, and track number. All of my songs are named the track number and name, the artist and album are organized by folders. ex. C/music/Killswitch Engage/Alive and Just Breathing/03 - Fixation on the Darkness.mp3 I tried naming the files with all of the information "ex Killswitch Engage- Alive and Just Breathing- 3 Fixation on the Darkness" and a few other variations but no matter how I save it or how it is put on the player it won't put anything in the other fields. I have all my music in Musicmatch Jukebox. I have also tried Windows Media Player (which is what the manufacturer reccomends) and the "drag and drop" method to no avail. If anybody can offer any help with this it would be much appreciated. I thought that it was a little more simple than this but apparently I am wrong.

going from memory here so i'm probably wrong. i dont have any mp3's here (i'm at work).. but if i recall, right click on the file, and then select properties. then hit the "summary" tab. there will be details about the file there. you can click and edit the details. maybe that'll fix your problem. theres also something called CDDB (CD database). theres freeware out there that will auto encode all the info you're looking for. best of luck |

| I don't know of the properties>summary stuff edits the same info (I don't think so, but don't know), but you need to make sure the ID3 tags for the mp3s have that information filled in. I'm assuming those are the artist name and album name fields or something similar. You can either download a ID3 editor of somekind or something like Winamp has it built in. My MP3 player displays "unknown" as well for the album name, etc when it is left blank on the ID3 tag for the file... On my version of Winamp you hit Alt+3 to pull up the ID3 editor. I don't know if you can do it with Windows Media Player. If all the ID3 stuff is filled in, maybe it is set to ID3 version 2 and the player only supports v1, etc. An editor may allow you to change that as well (Winamp allows you to set the info for both versions). |

According to everything here I have all that stuff filled in. (I looked it up to make sure thats what you were referring too). I'll have to check on the version 1 or 2. Thanks |

I think WinAmp is going to be the answer. I use it whenever I need to edit ID tags. What I would do is this: 1. Wipe the player clean (after making sure you have backup copies of everything you want on it). 2. Open those backup copies in WinAmp. Don't PLAY them, just make sure you can see them in the playlist window. You can't edit a file that is open (playing). 3. Highlight the filenames. Right click and "Edit File Information." 4. Enter the information in the appropriate text boxes. Be sure to use the "copy to" function to make sure the same information appears on both sides (you'll know what I mean when the editor is open). 5. Click "Save Changes." 6. Close WinAmp and load the corrected files to your player. At this point, you should be OK. Hope this works for you. |
